No longer works with Chrome
Re: No longer works with Chrome
This is a deal braker for me. Not being able to interact with the cameras while away from home is a very serious shortcoming... I might return them if this isn't solved soon.
Re: No longer works with Chrome
Hope they get Chrome support on Linux soon.
Here is what I did in Ubuntu in the mean time.
Download VLC if you don't have it already.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ubuntu.html
Open it up and go to "Media" in the title bar of the application.
From there go to "Open Network Stream"
In the address field type
Replace [username], [password] and [deviceIP] with your credentials and press "Play".
This should show you a live stream from the cam in the correct format.
To move the cam you have to go to your browser and type in the devices IP and log in. The controls still work in the default browser application, just the video is broke.
It works just have two windows to do one job.

Re: No longer works with Chrome
Any update on this? Really sucks that it doesn't work with anything new and Amcrest support said it would be fixed last year. Defeats the purpose of connecting it to the internet!
Re: No longer works with Chrome
As far as I can tell, the preview doesn't work on Chrome or IE (the only ones installed on this machine). It does still offer you to keep downloading and installing the plug-in, even after you have done so. I would advise people to avoid this product if you can.
Re: No longer works with Chrome
Hello Dogberry ,
Chrome is currently not fully compatible but it works on IE. Could you please contact our support team so that we can help you resolve this issue?

Re: No longer works with Chrome
This thread speaks volumes as to Amcrest's lack of commitment to its customers. The company simply refuses to do the work necessary to ensure the people who paid them money can use the world's most popular browser to view and manage their cameras. Amcrest also releases firmware with fatal flaws that should have EASILY been caught during QA testing, they will not or cannot release updated firmware to fix those problems, and they simply stop answering emails when you call them on the nonsensical responses they provide. After years of dealing with Foscam products, I had high hopes for Amcrest. I was dead wrong about that. I invite every individual with a non-functional or partially-functional Amcrest product to go to Amazon, Google, etc. and tell others of your experience. Only when the 1 star reviews start to pile up will Amcrest take these issues seriously, make the necessary changes to their development and QA processes, and provide us with products that do what we were told they would do when we bought them.
Amcrest, you told your customers that you were working on this over a year ago:
by Raheel » Sat Jun 27, 2015 4:29 am:"We are currently in development of plugins that will work on Chrome's newest versions, without NPAPI. The scheduled timeline for this to be available has been stated to be September.
If you're not going to support Chrome anytime soon, have the decency to tell your users as much.

Re: No longer works with Chrome
Hello markplewis,
We are sorry for the delay. For IP cameras we have a chrome app called Amcrest web view. Installing this plugin will allow viewing and controlling the camera on Chrome even though it does not have full functionality and settings on the interface like other browsers.

Re: No longer works with Chrome
Hi Melvin,
Thank you for your response. I had already installed the Amcrest Web View app on my Chromebook. When I start the app I see the UI and my camera's settings but there's no video. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it numerous times. I've rebooted after each install. I suspect the dreaded plugin issue is at fault here.
If you look at the reviews on the Google Web Store, you'll see numerous comments from users who, like me, have installed the app but cannot get it to display video. Please take a few minutes to look at those comments. They overwhelmingly suggest the app does not display video when run on a Chromebook. Could you also talk to your internal teams and see if anyone has been able to run the app on a Chromebook. Perhaps someone in your support department get their hands on a Chromebook and try to get the app to successfully run?
The reviews on the Chrome web store are horrendous and I would imagine your marketing folks would like to minimize the brand damage being done there. A concerted attempt to get the app to run on Chromebooks would probably alleviate a lot of user abrasion and the associated backlash. If it doesn't run a Chromebook, you could simply state that in the app's description.
Thanks for your help. I have a WIndows desktop machine that I am using to playback recorded video but it's hard to fit a full-size tower in my carry on luggage when I travel.

Hello markplewis ,
It is not compatible with Chrome book yet. The web view app works from chrome on PC. I will pass on your feedback to the concerned department.

Re: No longer works with Chrome
I am pretty disappointed, thinking about return the whole system. From reading this thread, nearly a year gone by and still no viable solution.
My setup -
2 720p PTZ Cam (Can View Fine from Lan through Web View App)
3 720p Outdoor IP Cams (Cannot view from Web View App) Tells me to install plugin, have several times, still not working.
1 NVR, Can view fine from TV All Cameras work, does not work while trying to log in via web, gives you a loop of "Please install plug ins", while I did that several times as well, still not working.
I am using Google Chrome on Macbook Pro.
While trying Firefox, when logging in, I get a javascript alert that says opr_ocx.login times9opr_ocx.times, it atleast lets me log in, however no video is working, it gives me a camera symbol with an x through it. It does halfway work with Safari
