No longer works with Chrome

Post by Tyrannosorceror »

I have been using this system for about 6 months now, and have always used google Chrome. It does not work anymore, I don't remember when it started, but it sucks. I have updated the firmware on the DVR and installed the latest version of the Android app and got all that working and was hoping and praying Google Chrome would work again, but alas...it does not. I go to the login page, type in my user name, my password, and nothing happens when I click Login. Nothing. Tap enter on keyboard? Nothing. I cannot login. I had to install dumbass Firefox because I sure as hell am not using Internet Explorer. So now I have Firefox installed for the sole purpose of using your web service....lame. Bring Chrome back, please.

think I found a solution for Chrome. I was having trouble running a game and the site gave a solution.

It said to paste "chrome://flags/#enable-npapi" into the address bar and then click, the enable link.

The full instructions are at https://miniclip.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/a ... /205412827. Look at Option #2 in the article.

It worked for me. After you enable npapi and restart your browser, Chrome will display a little X in the right of the address bar. You have to click it and tell it to run the plug in. Then Amcrest works!
Johnnyv posted that a while back, it still works, it is in a thread further down on the first page of this forum.

One step missing here that is new with Chrome is that it now defaults to run in the background, so you have to find it in your taskbar in the lower right, and right-click exit chrome, even though you close all your browser windows.

Good luck, I can post some screenshots if you are having trouble, when I have a chance.

Hy Tyrannosorceror,

Apologies for the issues you've experienced thus far. Google has ended support for NPAPI starting from version 42 of Chrome:

"In the past, many plugins were developed using an older system called NPAPI. Today fewer sites are using NPAPI plugins and they can sometimes cause security risks on websites."

Because our plugins were developed utilizing NPAPI, we are affected by this in addition to hundreds, if not thousands of other developers who utilized NPAPI for their plugins.

We are currently in development of plugins that will work on Chrome's newest versions, without NPAPI. The scheduled timeline for this to be available has been stated to be September.

Note that you can still utilize NPAPI plugins on Chrome with older versions, such as version 37 which is known to work, granted that you must enable NPAPI manually in Chrome's settings.

Overall, it is a bit unfortunate that this is the case as many of our users utilize Google Chrome, including ourselves. We will do our best to expedite development of the newer plugins so we can have Chrome working again for all of our customers.

You can read more about NPAPI here: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/6213033?hl=en

I second this, I just purchased my 960H DVR system 2 weeks ago, to find out that the only way to view my DVR is either with the native android app which is severely limited, or through Safari on Mac.

So far, Chrome won't stream, Firefox won't stream, IE on a windows 10 computer won't install the plugin that is suggested upon trying to view the stream, third party Android/iOS apps won't stream.....

I'm going to make it very publicly visible that until this is rectified, I highly suggest my user base of listeners to go elsewhere.

On what OS won't Firefox stream? I don't have a problem streaming to Firefox, both locally and remotely, from two different Windows 7 PC's.
As to the general complaint about not working with Chrome. Its a valid complaint but note that there are other companies are scrambling to deal with Chrome's discontinuation of Java. It takes time to program, text, implement a fix or workaround, if one is even possible.

Edit to add: On Windows 10 Pro, after installing the plug in file (webplugin.exe), the web interface (going through quickddns.com) works using Firefox. The web interface doesn't work in the Edge browser, keeps putting up a message about installing the plug-in. The web interface also works on Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 Pro.
