I was excited to see these on sale last week and immediately ordered one to try with my AMDV8M8-H5. It has become quite a letdown after several hours of trying just about everything I can think of to make it perform as advertised with a DVR advertised to be a great match for it.
The main problem: It's supposed to run at 15fps @4K/8MP, 20fps@6MP and 30fps@4MP. It doesn't. 7fps is max at any resolution under any configuration combination. I realize there is a 7fps recording limitation on the DVR at 4K, but that shouldn't affect real time viewing -- unless the DVR itself has a problem with this particular camera which would indicate a general Amcrest compatibility issue with one or the other, or both. The camera is set to HDCVI and recognized as such by the DVR when set to both 'auto' or 'CVI'. It also looks bad -- on a 4K TV. Very noisy and unstable like a bad cable or low power. Both have been eliminated as a problem and the camera looks beautiful over the network in Blue Iris at full resolution, but still at only 7fps. That takes me right back to the DVR/Camera combination as the source of the problem somehow.
The DVR is a refurb direct from Amcrest which could indicate it possibly had problems in the first place. Then again, it could also have simply been a refurbed return with no obvious issues. It certainly seems to have one now recognizing the capabilities of this camera by restricting its published specs, which are presumably accurate?
Being clearly aware of the DVR's decreasing limitations as the performance demands increase by more cameras being added, my testing has been done with the 4KBC28 camera being the only camera connected using multiple inputs to eliminate an individual channel problem. The Encode settings are normal in every other way except frames per second being limited to 7 on both main and sub menus.
I generally run three 5MP IP cameras at 30fps/full resolution with all 12 channels loaded and no major issues aside from slower system response navigating and displaying on the attached monitor -- a 4K TV. DVR load is not the problem.
I really want this camera to work. As mentioned, it looks beautiful in Blue Iris where I could also record it at 4K 15fps if this can get sorted out. Would be great if it also looked good straight out of the DVR into the 4K TV too -- at 15fps.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
TIA

Sorry the details are stated on the Web site of Amcrest. 7fps is best that recorder will do. That also states view

Re: Very Disappointed by AMC4KBC28 8MP Analog Camera
I've been deceived by the ads more than once and rely on the spec sheets. One is clearly not exactly accurate. Must be the published specifications if what you indicate is actually true. Even more disappointment.
Still doesn't explain the camera not being able to be set up for lower resolutions like any other hi-res camera or why it looks like crap straight out the HDMI interface to a 4K monitor. Must be the reason for such a high rate of returns on the thing. I know the DVR will do 5MP @30fps and would be happy with that out of this camera.
Why do all these manufacturers need to be so deceptive? The main reason I landed with Amcrest was their apparent clarity and honesty with the published information.

Re: Very Disappointed by AMC4KBC28 8MP Analog Camera
The camera must have the restriction information hard-coded for the DVR to set its limits. It would be interesting to see how it would work in a higher end XVR that didn't recognize the proprietary Amcrest stuff.

And why do I always get one of these when posting or responding to a post?
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. LOL

Sorry don't know the camera. My guess is the camera is like all mine and you will need to connect to OSD of camera. On mine first thing that comes up is camera format. Your camera might be same or will be in menu.
To get to menu, Bring up ptz menu, press iris open, or expand and press button top right for menu.

Don't know I get as well I have mentioned it to Amcrest.

Re: Very Disappointed by AMC4KBC28 8MP Analog Camera
I've been to the OSD menu. No joy there.
As for Amazon and Amcrest advertising, they also say "4" IP channels which we know can be all 12 if you know how to do it.

Re: Very Disappointed by AMC4KBC28 8MP Analog Camera
About the Spec Sheets is misleading at times reason I own 7108 is at the time the Spec said 5116 was 7fps and 7108 was 14 or 15 and was not wanting to go to 1/2 of what I was using at the time. So after I bought and connected my 5mp and 2mp cameras at 20 and 30 fps I came to understand the number at the time was only for 8mp so was kind of let down because wanted 16ch and 71xx only offered in 8. Oh well love the DVR. Better then any of my NVR's IMHO.
Yes but that is talking about 4ip ch in addition to the 8 bnc channels. Like my 7204 is 2ip channels but you loose 2 bnc so still only 4ch. So at least we getting more

Re: Very Disappointed by AMC4KBC28 8MP Analog Camera
Yeah so looking at the Camera that is the Issue the Camera you posted is only CVI so that means it will only work in CVI mode. That is why there is no other formats in the OSD. Just looked at one of mine. While I can change the Encoding info from 1 format from 5mp on my case to 1080p it is only a TVI and because of that TVI on my Recorder 5mp is 12FPS. However on my 7108 in TVI that is 20fps..
You are aware what FPS is for right?
In case you do or Don't and others that might be reading this that Don't FPS is Frame Per Second. So on some systems taht let the user in Playback do a Frame by Frame that would be great to have 14 to 30 frames to look at to try and get the best looking picture when trying to get a License Plate or get the best picture of a Person to send for a Crime they might have committed. Outside of that to our eyes there is no real effect from 7fps to 14..
