Need to change WIFI network

Post by danik56 »

Camera connected to old WIFI access point and I want to switch to new SSID.
Can this be done without connecting the camera via ETH cable ?

If you log in to your camera web gui and go to Setup/Network/WiFi then you will see a list of the networks currently 'visible' to your camera. Just select then one you want to log onto and enter the security credentials.

So the new SSID connection will be verified before dropping the old one ?

To be honest I don't know which way round the process works but the end effect will be that the camera is connected to a single access point.

Just as a matter of interest and it's not something that I have investigated in depth but I have noted that a camera which has been connected both by ethernet and wi-fi will respond to calls to either IP address if they are both in the same range even if only connected by one route.

I have 2 cameras connected by WIFI only.
From the phone app I get the live feed from both just fine even when away from home.
However, from a a PC I can access both cameras via the local IP address (192.168.1.xxx) but the live feed is always the same from the first camera even when I access the IP of the 2ed camera.

So when accessing the cameras on a PC is that with a web browser or Amcrest Surveillance Pro.

In the camera network settings, have you set IP's as fixed or allocated by DHCP? I have all my cameras on fixed IP's and my router is set up so that it issues IP addresses in a limited range which does not include the addresses that the cameras use.

When you originally setup your cameras did you do it using an ethernet cable and then change them to wi-fi, I have in mind what I said in the last paragraph of my first post.

I am not sure what is going on but if I am reading right sounds like your Wifi camera is connected to cable as well. Once Wifi is enabled and set to Default it should turn off IP from Ethernet..

So what might happen is that camera that was on Cable at 192.168.1.108 by default has changed to 128 for the Wifi. However when setting up camera 2 that was also on 192.168.1.108 and was lets say changed to 127 for the Wifi. If the cameras are still connected to the Wired connection it can pull off the wire both IPs but lets say camera 2 changed from 108 to 109 caused by first being still connected when the second one was turned on.. However not remembering this maybe thinking the numbers are different then they are..

However first.. This is what needs to be done to change Wifi Network... First log in to the camera you can with what ever IP is fastest for you, Then click Setup, Then Network, then Wifi, Here you will want to do a Search for your new Wifi Network, if it didn't come up already. THen click on the Wifi you want to connect to and enter the user and password info.. Once it is connected I would double check that the network is in fact working... ONce you are sure it is connected you should be able to connect to second camera without an issue with the first seeing it is now on a different network.. Now connect to the second camera, Setup, Network, Wifi, search or click on the New wifi if it came up.. Put in new user and pass for that network and after click on connect and it should change over to the new network... However Personally before doing this to either of the 2 cameras I would make sure they are setup for DHCP to make sure that the camera gets a good IP from the New Router.. Because if you don't have them setup right before making the change over you will have to do a Camera Reset...

So before making that change as stated above.. Log in to camera, Setup, network, Click TCP/IP and in the drop down make sure to select Wireless Also if you are using Wireless only I would change that to reflect this by clicking make default, under that will be Static and DHCP make it DHCP for now, Then hit Save... This shouldn't change your current IP but if it did, then keep that IP for making the changes as stated above.. Once you are on your net router then I would go back and change over to Static just keep in mind that it can change your IP info so once on DHCP before you click back to static make sure to look over the setting so you can keep all but the IP or maybe you just keep it all the way it is and like the IP so you keep it as well but I would move it to Static so there is no future change in IP
Be Safe.

Both cameras connected via WIFI only (no cable) with fixed IP addresses.
The wrong live feed is only happening via the web browser. works fine with Amcrest Surveillance Pro

Even though they are not now connected by ethernet, they may still respond to calls made to the IP address that was used when they were. I'd think about a factory reset for one of the cameras and start from scratch with it.

In my own setup my DHCP server (the router) is set to allocate IP's in the range 192.168.178.54 to 192.168.178.254. My cameras are setup up with static IP's below 192.168.178.54. Any reboots that occur don't cause a problem.

Sorry I guess I was confused.. Thought you were looking to change to another WIFI router...

Like Longedge said and I was going to mention it at first but then thought it wouldn't be needed if you were to change out the info as I put in my text.. One turning on DHCP is needed for making a Seemless transition from 1 to the other wifi.. Second part and most important part is changing the Wifi info to log into the new wifi.. Once you make the change to the first camera it will not matter if you can connect to the second one with the IP of first camera before making the switch because the first one is now going to have a different IP and will not matter...

Then I was also going to say remove power from first 1 one but again once you make the transition from 1 Wifi to the other you will not have to remove power because it will no longer even be on the same range of the second camera..

TCP/IP, Change to wireless in the drop down. make change from Static to DHCP make sure to retain current camera ip for the time being while you save it will kick you out.. Then you will need to log back in.. Then you will want to go to network, Wifi, and change the info in there to new WIFI router from the list.. Once you save it will kick you out once again and now that camera once it reboots will need to load in on a different router and will have a different IP so the other camera that is on the OLD router will not matter what IP you access it in the list.. If and when you access it you will want to make changes to network, and then same steps as changing the first one...
Be Safe.
