FTP Server Test Failure, user read only right

Post by Anathema »

I've spent nearly 4 hours trying to get my IP camera to get in contact with my FTP server being routed through my R7450 router via readyshare.

Readyshare recognizes the hard drive and I can access it without issue via a browser, but I keep getting a "FTP Server Test Failure, user read only right" error when entering the information into my IP camera.

I tried updating my firmware to no avail and I'm really quite stuck here. I got a different error at some point which made me think I was making progress but I can't recall what it said, it was still a "rights" error. I assume it's referring to "write" access.

The IP camera is on wifi and connected, I did also try ethernet, and it appears the camera can see the FTP server but that's the extent of it.

Anyone have some insight? I'd really like to be done with this whole thing. :?

The other error I'm able to get is "right verification failure"

Hello and welcome the Forum

So some of the issues that can happen when setting up an FTP the Folder that is set don't have the right Perms... You will want to make sure that when you go to the folder for your FTP that the user name made for the FTP server has rights to that folder for read and write.. To be safe I make sure they have full rights. However at times if iam running into an issue making a FTP I will setup only Read rights to get the message that you mention just to get something back other then fail or error...

Also please note that it can fill up a FTP rather fast... The settings in the camera of some of the FW will not delete the old footage and some of the FW will delete the old after so many days that you setup footage... Just be it known that you will have to watch over because I tested it on a FW that don't over write and when full it just stop recording... The others as well seeing the ones that did delete space did so and other one just kept going take the space and before long only thing left was the 1 camera that didn't delete the files
Be Safe.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using the admin account to log in and I still get the error. It makes me think there's an issue with the "pathing" or "directory" I'm using but at the same time I've tried probably 100 different variants.

It's a 4TB hdd so I expect to get a good amount of storage. The camera is set to overwrite old data, but if that fails I'll just go in and "wipe" a month or so at a time to maintain storage. $15/mo for amcrest cloud is far too much imo when you can get TB's of data on AWS for <.25c per TB.

I'm happy to post screenshots of all my configurations if that helps?

Something to try in the folder location rather then a name of a folder maybe try just using \

I have indeed tried that. As well as using it before/after things like /shares/USB_Storage/

I did a lot of reading before I posted in hopes of finding a solution, unfortunately I wasn't able to find one.

Look through this thread(3 pages) to see if anything might help.

I resolved this issue in the Windows Firewall. It is not good enough only to enabled FTP you also need to enabled passive FTP transfers in the firewall.
