Re: upgrading NV4108 to NV5216
Pure speculation here but if the NVR software just sees a /dev/sda1 formatted with ext3 then you might be able to shift it over. At worst you'll get an unrecognised file format error or similar, as long as it doesn't try and format the media if it sees something unrecognised you can give it a try.

Re: Browser plugins don't work?
Interesting, this thread reported problems with choppy video after the upgrade, which has made me hold off upgrading. So you've had no video issues?

Re: Anyone tried the new firmware for the NV4xxx-HS series?
Has anyone tried @Revo2Maxx's advice on CBR vs. VBR? That would certainly explain the choppiness-on-playback issue.

Re: Anyone tried the new firmware for the NV4xxx-HS series?
Thanks for the update. Such a pain, I'd really like to have a fix for their broken TLS implementation so it'll talk to most mail servers again, but if it's going to render the device unusable the "cure" is worse than the disease. Have they at least added an ability to power it down now? Wi...

Re: Anyone tried the new firmware for the NV4xxx-HS series?
Haven't risked it yet for reasons given above, if anything goes wrong an RMA is next to impossible, however some general questions, which cameras are you running, in other words any high-bandwidth/high-res ones, and is the choppiness for live video, triggered recording/playback, anything else, or al...

Re: Anyone tried the new firmware for the NV4xxx-HS series?
Had a longer look through their endless non-alphabetically-sorted product menu and it's the same firmware version as the latest update available for the NV5xxx series, so it looks like this might be the long-awaited update for the 4's to get them current.

Anyone tried the new firmware for the NV4xxx-HS series?
Just noticed that there's new firmware available for the NV4xxx-HS series dated 5/21/20 but the release notes are empty. Given that the current version is 3.215.00AC000.0 and this is 4.000.AC000 it looks like a significant step up, maybe they've finally fixed the broken TLS issue so it can be used w...

Re: Amcrest Botched CA and Intermediate CA
Not wanting to quibble too much, but this is really an incredibly minor issue, a typo in the name of the state is a sign of somewhat sloppy QC but nothing more. It doesn't affect security or operating the device in any way.

Re: Do the Amcrest 5-series NVRs finally fix the broken email bug?
Thanks! Now I need to figure out whether it's worth getting a new NVR just to fix this. It's almost like owning an Android phone, when you want a software update you have to buy a new phone.

Re: Do the Amcrest 5-series NVRs finally fix the broken email bug?
If you mean specifically email servers you're running yourself then you may not notice it since many privately-controlled servers ignore the SCSV bug in Amcrest's TLS, would you be able to check whether it can send via Gmail? That's a site that's known not to work in the presence of the bug.
