DVR "equalizer" Color Settings

Post by pilant »

I have a AMDV10808 that I'm just really starting to configure and use. For the most part, it works fine. However, the video is way too "sharp" and in some cases has a moire pattern overlaid.

Doing some experimenting, I discovered the "Equalizer" slider in the "Color Settings" for each camera. In my version of the software 3.200.AC04.5, there are "+", "-" , and "Reset" buttons. Using the "+" and "-", it appears I can only go up or down 1 or two numbers. I cannot go to the high / low limits. If I hit the "Reset" button, the video briefly appears fine / normal, but then when the equalizer gets set, it is too "sharp".

I've gone through all the Amcrest documentation I can find, none of it describes the use of the Equalizer, or why the slider cannot be set from the low to high limit. For example, if I hit the "Reset" button, the Equalizer will get set to 8 or 9 (in one case; it may be 5 or 6 for a different camera, all cameras are the same type). Using the "+" and "-" I can
change it to 7 on the low end, but no lower.

Any ideas or suggestions as to what might be going on?

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the Forum. Sorry to hear you are having troubles with your system. Something I would think might help. If you haven't already. I would look at the Amcrest Under your product and find if there is a FW update. If you haven't already I would update to NEW FW and then do a Factory Reset. Once this is done if you have a HDD Format the HDD and check the Cameras views again. Also maybe take a picture and upload so we can see what the issue with the PICTURE is...
Be Safe.

I've checked the Amcrest site, and there appears to be only one version of FW available. It is the same as is currently loaded in the DVR.

Any idea how I would do a factory reset on this DVR? The documentation is pretty lacking in several areas, this being one of them. After I do a reset, I'll try and take some pictures to show what the view is like.

Found the "factory reset"... I think :-)

In the System Settings, in the DEFAULT menu item, there is a "Factory Default" button. Pressing this asks for confirmation and then reboots and enters the initial setup wizard. So I think it did the correct thing.

Unfortunately, no change in the camera video. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

This image shows the video during the "EQ" Reset, but before it has been set. So it would appear the DVR is capable of rendering a reasonable image. Another channel (same model camera) with an "EQ" of 3, appears very reasonable.

This image shows the video as seen on the monitor attached to the DVR. Note the "EQ" set to 13. Using the "+" and "-", it can be changed to 12 or 14. Repeated attempts to set any higher or lower are ignored.

So there are really two questions. First, why such a large range in "EQ" for cameras of the same model? Second, why is the "EQ" range limited?

Thanks in advance.

August 28, 2019 update: After spending the past month to resolve this problem, I am giving up. I purchased a replacement DVR from a competitor and everything worked without any problems.

Will be offering the Amcrest DVR for sale to someone else to experiment with.

As far as I am concerned, this issue is now closed (with no Amcrest resolution).
