New Here

Post by SierraFlash »

Joined to figure out the Amcrest camera mess I have.
Trying to figure out if any of our old cameras are useable.
Trying to figure out how to change passwords in all the different cameras. They range in age from 1 year old to maybe 8 years old. Some have reset buttons some don’t. System was originally set up by my son . Then I took it down and replaced with new. Then wife added back a couple of the old cameras to the NVR. Currently the NVR is not connected to the internet. Had it connected the other day , until the neighbor hacker the Wi-Fi connector.
Trying to figure out why the logs for the NVR say the different camera channels are logging in and preforming tasks excluding configuring the monitor and other controls. Why would the camera save screen shots? The activities of the logged on channel seems more like a Hacker setting up the NVR to their liking. Not to mention messing with the camera on the channel they are logged into. I want to change the camera passwords to hopefully stop this activity.

I need to learn how to navigate this system before purchasing a new NVR. Evidently the Recent NVR purchase doesn’t do AI but several of the cameras do.

Hello welcome to the forum.

So nvr and camera models would help some. NVR might have log info for camera connection if green light in camera page but might have encoding error so no picture on screen.
Hacker logging on? Can't log on if they don't know your password. Dont connect your nvr or cameras directly to internet.
Be Safe.

Currently what is connected to the nvr works. But the cameras are using the default password because the password we had stopped working.
There has been someone coming into my house repeatedly (picking my locks) and messing with the NVR. You can image everything was compromised when they picked my safe while I was in town for the day.

The NVR is a NV5232E-16p

I did get an old Wi-Fi Bullet camera working on the Amcrest View Pro 2 App. That camera has a reset button. Only thing is it is running on the Ethernet cable connected to a splitter connected to the protected mesh router. I was able to give it a new password, but how will that stop the bad actors from pushing the reset button and taking it over again?

Ok, For the NVR when you setup to change the password click on to change all the cameras passwords and that will solve the default password issue.. Next might want to look into investing in a Belgian Balinois and some traing to protect the home if you are having someone break into your home. I don't know where you live or how someone could get away with doing this more then once..

I do have the 5232E-16P first Gen, Not sure if yours is the E1 or first gen. Either way it is a good NVR and has many options that should be able to keep people from your home. However not sure how someone would break in and have time to reset your NVR... Wouldn't even make it to my NVRs before the Cops were at my home..

Normally someone breaks in they are taking any recorder that is easy to grab that is why one of my Main recorders is in a room without a door and one they can see to take has a GPS tracker in it..

Then all the recorders I have use Push and Email so there is many different ways to keep someone accountable..

Change your Password in the NVR, and have the NVR change the passwords in your cameras. As long as they are Amcrest and Dahua anyway.. That should keep your system from having default passwords.. Setup Push and email on key entry points to your home. Setup a 7in Entry monitor that pops up the picture of the person that is trying to break into your home.. Soneone seeing the picture of them may not keep everyone honest but anyone that don't want to do time I am guessing would think twice..

Don't use any Wifi cameras as your Main Protection cameras. Even having a Ad410 while it can protect most times having a Wired human detection camera even if your using a Gen 1 the camera can be setup to email or push you alerts of Humans that enter when they shouldn't..

Maybe you need an Alarm system that is Monitored by a Security Service. There are many ways to keep people out..
Be Safe.
