ProHD: If hardwired, you must enable WIFI in Setup>Network>WIFI in order to receive push notifications. This effects both Gmail (perhaps other email), as well as push notifications on all devices (tested on both iPhone and Android).

You can test/confirm this by enabling and disabling WIFI and testing your e-mail connection: Setup>Network>SMTP (Emal)>Email Test.
