no files in file list

The SD card capacity is diminishing, so something is recording, but the file list is empty. It wasn't like that last week. I formatted the SD card, that didn't help. Then I replaced the SD card with a fresh one but the same problem continues. Tech Support couldn't figure out the problem and so advised me to do a factory reset, but I'd rather avoid that because I have a hard time setting this thing up and I don't want to be on the phone with CS again. Is there anything else to try? Thanks.
