IP5M-B1186EB Won't communicate

Post by patgreen »

I recently purchased a 2-Pack of the subject camera. I plugged in the first camera and it showed up on my 192.168.1.xxx network having used DHCP to get an IP address. I logged into the camera using Chrome and successfully updated the password, set a static IP address, and viewed a great live picture. I then set out to do the same with the second camera, but it never joins my network. I have tried both POE (the same port that worked with the first camera) and also a non-POE port using a plug-in 12 volt power supply. The camera appears to be powered up because I can cover the lens and hear the click when it switches to night mode, but still nothing that indicates it tried to get an IP address from my router. This morning, I tried a factory reset (using the button under the bottom cover), but still no communications. I imagine I need to send it back, but I thought I would try asking here first. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Pat

So it might be anything... First to mind is a distance issue. My guess is that your cameras are mounted? Or are you desk testing? If they are mounted what is the distance between the cameras location and the switch?

Next if you are using a 8 wire cable and not using a dual camera setup on 1 cable.. Then your cable might be the issue and not the length at all.

The cameras work normally on pins 1,2,3,6 and if any of them are damaged it might power the camera on but won't get any data from it.. That is what happens or can happen if lets say pin 2 didn't get terminated correctly and if using a cable tester it shows it isn't connected. Plugging in the cable that is with all 8 pins terminated the camera can power on with the last 2 pairs..

So I would test new cable or using a tester make sure the cables are working correctly, if you have another camera test it with that location to confirm that cable is good or bad.. If you put the ends on it. Cut them off and put on 2 new ones if you don't have a cable tester..

If it is a length issue the camera will work at the desk but nothing past like 20 or 30 feet. If that is the case the camera would need to be repaired as that would mean there is a damaged part in the circuit..
Be Safe.

Thank you for your reply Revo2Maxx. I've only done desk testing so far. The good camera and the bad camera are using the same POE injector and the same cables. I have tried different cables (about 3 to 20 feet lengths) but get the same result. Camera 1 always works but camera 2 never works. I think it's time to send camera 2 back.
