Guys, the problem is that you're trying to plug microphones into a line-in jack. I can confirm just by looking that none of the products mentioned earlier on this thread will work with these cameras. Not only does line-in fail to provide power to the microphone, it is expecting much larger signals than a microphone would produce. Line-in is meant to be plugged into a line-out or headphone jack on another device. Two kinds of devices will work as a microphone on a line-in jack:
A powered microphone (extremely low sound sensitivity; talk directly into the mic to hear it). Look for regular 3.5mm corded microphones that use a battery. Examples below:

An amplified microphone (adjustable sound sensitivity, some can even hear extremely faint sounds). Look for microphones (or devices with a microphone) that also have a headphone monitoring jack. Examples below:
