Good morning.
I love my IP2M-841B. It has been flawless to monitor the inside of our house. The one thing I have been curious about is the ability for my Android app to access the video from outside my home/router. Where is this configured at and how does it work? I ask because I want to ensure that I understand the risks or tradeoff of having video leave my home when I use the app and understand if video is leaving the home regardless. The same goes for the HDCVI 8-channel (4B4D) that I my parents recently bought per my recommendation for their home to monitor their entry ways and their home perimeter.
Thanks!
Frank
Viewing video outside the home
Re: Viewing video outside the home
using your DDNS settings, and this video to help you set up port forwarding should do the trick.

Re: Viewing video outside the home
I am already able to view video outside the home, and it is not through dynamic DNS. I want to understand how and what settings are involved with it.
Re: Viewing video outside the home
There are two option for accessing the cam remotely from a computer. One is using the portal www.amcrestview.com . There you need to sighn up for an account and then add your camera with its serial number and user name and password. This is the easiest way to do this.
The second method is by setting up port forwarding. This will need you to login to your router and do some settings. The below video explains the process.

On mobile phones, you just need to add it with the P2p set up. All you have to do is scan the QR code and input the device username and password. This applies to both the IP cams and HDCVI dvr's. To use the DDNS, you need to first set up port forwarding. Then enable DDNS under Network settings and set up your domain name. Please feel free to contact our technical support if you have more questions.

Re: Viewing video outside the home
So out of the box, it is using P2P to your services to allow for the Mobile App to access the data. Is all of that using SSL? Is this how amcrestview.com works?Melvin wrote:There are two option for accessing the cam remotely from a computer. One is using the portal http://www.amcrestview.com . Re: Viewing video outside the home
This is SO confusing and making me regret purchasing the IP2M-841B. If the features weren't so great, I'd return it. It took 4 attempts, but now I can access the camera for live view from inside our home. Now, we want to access from outside our home without incurring any more charges and securely.Melvin wrote:There are two option for accessing the cam remotely from a computer. What is the difference between the following:
1) AmcrestCloud (https://www.amcrestcloud.com)
2) AmcrestView (http://www.amcrestview.com)
3) QuickDDNS
4) Port forwarding
5) anything else I missed
Also, if one signs up for ArmcrestCloud, does using smartphone app INSIDE home on same WiFi or network use up any of the "allowed streaming"?
Thanks much!
Re: Viewing video outside the home
Hello,
AmcrestCloud- You use this service only if you want to record videos to a cloud server.
AmcrestView- The easiest way to access cam remotely. No port forwarding is required.
QuickDDNS- You use this domain name to access camera remotely when the port forwarding method is used.
Port forwarding- Basically set up access for the device from the internet through your router. Need to make changed in the router manually.
Using the Amcrest cloud app will sue some data on your phone.
If you still have more questions, please feel free to contact our support by phone or email.

Re: Viewing video outside the home
to not incur mobile data charges you have to be connected to any WIFI hotspot either at home or away. if you are connected to 3g/4g then you are incurring data charges. No way around it.
Re: Viewing video outside the home
I'm not worried about the mobile data charges, it's any fees to view the streaming video from our camera we're worried about. We also want to make sure to protect access to the camera (avoid hacking).
Re: Viewing video outside the home
there is no fee to view the live stream using amcrest app or any android app (ie. tinycam). viewing a recorded stream from the cloud will have a monthly fee. Or you can record to an SD card or to a NVR for free after you purchase said card or NVR.
