NV4108E Dahua Firmware?

Post by thomasp942 »

Last night I tried upgrading my Amcrest NV4108E with NV4xxx firmware from Dahua and I keep getting error and then get booted out of the GUI. Has anyone successfully gotten Dahua firmware to run on a NV4108E? Thanks to Microsoft retiring IE my NVR is basically not usable even though it will works perfectly fine. I really don't want to spend hundreds on a new one. Thanks.

If your talking about the older NONE HS or A2 then my guess is no even if there was it wouldn't let your system be accessed by the Chrome or Edge because when there is no longer a FW update for Amcrest normally the Dahua line is even older then Amcrest newest FW.. Meaning in General if your NVR has a 2018 FW the Dahua line would be 16 or 17 and if there was one that says it is newer that was listed date.

Amcrest has the new A2 version of the NVR without HDD for very little money way cheaper then I would expect it to be. So 4108E-A2 is less then 200 without HDD..

However using Edge, setup your IP to work in IE mode. IE mode in Edge is said to be supported to at least 2029 so that will give you and me a few more years in our older 4108E NVR's I personally feel that is one of the better NVR's that I own as it don't have some of the Flaws of the newer FW systems..

Also you could use ASP as a way to better view your system as well. It works with little effort

If you want to use Edge, Open Edge, then top right press the 3 dots, Then settings, then Default Browser button, Then in that screen is an area where you can enter the ip address of your NVR and now when you put in that IP address it will open your NVR WebUI in IE format in Edge. Note This will need to be done every 30 days just saying

So I thought I would show you what I was talking about.

This NVR only has a few cameras think 7 but isn't my main NVR just one of the many I use..

Thank you Revo2Maxx! I got it open in IE mode. Glad I can get a few more years out of this NVR since it still works great. Just need to get one new camera since the night vision LEDs don't work anymore on one of them.
Thanks again!!!

Any idea if this 5MP 2-pack will work with the NV4108E or is it too old to support more than 4MB?

To be honest I am not sure they will work. Looking at my Box and you can look at yours if you still have it after all these years. Anyway on the Box yes it says that it supports 5mp however if you look at the Side it says the 5mp is 2560X1920 and the cameras looks like they are 2592x1944 and that could be outside the scope of the NVR's ability to Encode it. I personally don't have them cameras so I can't say for sure.

However after saying all that, I did just turn one of my 5mp cameras back to 5mp at first I thought it wasn't going to work when I noticed it was setup for h.265. So I changed it to H.264h and sure enough my 5mp Cameras that I can run at 2mp, 3mp 4mp and 5mp when I turn on 5mp 20fps in my cameras OSD, I was able to load it and it works great in my 4108E. This is the machine with older looking front. With the Buttons on the front not the slick black front with Slots that one with Slots is 8mp so 5mp works no problem the one I am talking about is the older 5mp 4108E... My camera encoding does say 2592.1944 see picture below. Also be it known while the camera of mine is limited to 20fps in my camera the NVR is only offering 12fps. SO I am sure it could be the same for the cameras. They might offer 30fps but NVR seems limited in my cameras anyway to 12fps.. However I will have to look at it again after I move a 5mp camera to my 7108-AI DVR, Seeing the one I have it connected to is my 8m16-H5 and while it is also 8mp able the 5mp camera might only be able to Encode in that DVR at 12fps and might be while it is limited in my 4108E.. Yes I am using a DVR as a camera in my 4108E.. I do that all the time between my platforms.

Ok so I did change the Camera to my 7108-AI DVR from my Amcrest 8m16-H5 and sure enough the 5mp 20fps is able to run in my 4108E NVR after making that change. I changed the IP to my 7108-AI also on CH3 as it was on my older DVR. I changed to 20fps and when I made that change to reflect the new IP from 219 to 229 for the other DVR I was able to change Main stream 20 fps see picture below.. Also something to note, The 4108E says it can work in H265 however when I set it as that in either of my DVR's the NVR don't like that format so It does work without issue in H.264H so I would make sure not to run your new IP cameras in H.265 if that is how they default or there might be an issue..

Also thought I would mention that 5mp is great. I am not sure where you have your cameras facing. The reason I have mine changed to a different lower format has nothing to do with the ability to run them as I have said most of my Recorders are 5mp and higher I do have some even older ones that are 720P however just use them as back up if I need to swap out a HDD or something goes offline I can turn on my older 720p cameras. Personally for me where my cameras are facing the 5mp acts funny so I lowered them to better suit my needs. 5mp is good view but I like the wider view of 1080P personally..

Before you buy a new IP camera I would double check that your IR is really no longer working because I just had an issue with one of my 850's where my Long distance IR wouldn't work. After doing a Factory Reset and setting my camera back up the way I wanted my Long Range IR is working again. It might be that your camera just needs a Reset and the IR might work again.. Just an idea.

I do know that I have had to change out some IR over the years Even with my owning some IR Blasters now older then 10 years some of them that had 8 year Warranty are no longer working as I want them. I have gone most all Color at night in my current location. Where I was before there was not enough white light for that so I bought some very spendy IR Blaster. I can no longer afford to buy them so I prefer white light Cameras now days...

Something to try before buying new cameras though.. Just an idea.

If you can find the Firmware that would be up to you. You won't be able to use Amcrest P2P anymore for notices on events. Keep in mind that there are some people that have upgraded and was fine. Others bricked the system trying. Personally wouldn't do it if you can't afford to replace it if something goes wrong..

2022 firmware update or lack there of normally is a good sign. IF it isn't broke don't fix it.. I mean if there isn't something crazy going on what would the update be for? No security issues so nothing to change? I mean I have different company hardware they don't even offer updated firmware unless there is some type of security issue found after the fact. So yeah no firmware for a device since 2018 and they just keep releasing new products same number just different version. I know Amcrest has some v2 and V3 products but in truth they are different in some way mostly by chip used to build the cameras so the software going into the new one would be different then the older one. But V8 and no updates to ones from years ago.. Not cool..
