None of my Cameras Record

Post by hawkeye62 »

Yes, none of my cameras record. When I try to playback video from any of my seven cameras, I get a message that says there are no recordings! I have always been able to playback recordings. So, I checked my NVR 4108-HS settings. Everything looks good on the screens that have the schedule, EXCEPT the attached setup page.

The instructions for this page says that these settings supersede any other recording instructions. The page is dead, nothing can be changed. All options are blank, nothing is checked and nothing can be checked. Aany advice will be appreciated.

What type of camera are you using?

What is the status of your HDD? I ask because if your HDD is full right now and you have your system setup to stop after full it might be why there is no ability to change in the Record Menu. In theory it should look something like my 4116E-HS

I would Reboot the NVR if your HDD status isn't error or full. If it is Error or full correct that, then reboot and might need a reboot to correct. If all else fails then it sounds like you may need to Reset back to Factory the NVR

There are no HDD issues, Status "Normal". I deleted some files, limited to 255 days of files. Freed up 95 Gb of data on a 1.22 TB HDD. But the record page is the same. Guess I will try to reboot.

So did your issue come clear after a reboot?

Also please keep in mind that doing a removal of recorded files don't really delete the files from the HDD and it just overwrites old data that is over 255 days old in your case.

If you don't mind could you click on Operations, then in the Log area there is a drop down for type of files to search for, Click on that and pick storage, Then do a search for the last 30 days and let me know how many different log files have been generated for that 30 days. When I did it my self I have an entry on the 11th on my 6tb HDD. I am looking to see if your logs can come up with an issue that will or help understand why your system is/was having issues?

For my critical DVR/NVRs mostly my Ai ones I have them setup to reboot every night at midnight mainly because that is when the new day starts for Ai display on my machines. So good time to reboot. If you don't reboot your system once a week at least issues can come about when your HDD becomes full. Remember as I said before even with your DVR/NVR setup to delete files after a set time that HDD is sill filling up even though like in your case shows there is empty space it isn't really.

So if you are trying to be compliant on some type of storage requirements, as there are some companies that are required to have full time recordings for 365 days then you will want a larger HDD or record at the lower Sub resolution as a way to save on HDD space. If there are no required retention time needed I would make sure to keep an eye on your HDD to make sure that it don't get to max capacity in the future.

If you do a search in your logs for Storage, How many times has it changed to SDA0? or how many times has it changed from SDA0 to SDA1?

Also thought I would mention to others that might be looking to solve same type issue, Your Operation button might be called Maintain as it is on some of my other recorders.

Thanks for the suggestions Revo! Well, I have done a hard reset to factory settings. The record page is still "dead" and I still get a message that says "no recording". I am out of town the rest of this week. I will get back to this problem early next week.

OK, back in town. I did a factory reset yesterday. I am surprised that all of my cameras are still there. I guess ASP and the 4108 work together?

The storage log has many entries, but they are all like this: Changed sda(2) to sda(3), or some variation (1 to 2, 3 to 2 etc.) That is strange because I have only one HDD, sda0. I have set up the auto reboot for 2 AM on Sunday. With regard to the HDD being full and set to overwrite. Could I erase the entire HDD and start from scratch?

Yes you can Format the HDD using the WebUI or the NVRs GUI. How old is the HDD? Is it is Security HDD or normal PC HDD? I have a 6tb that is starting to get old on me. Looking at my system logs I can see that the HDD is starting to act up.. Looking at the data for my HDD it is 5 years old and has more then to many hours on it at almost over 43k hours. If it was a PC HDD may get about half that time if lucky. PC HDD isn't designed to write 24/7 like a security HDD is..

I would work in a backup HDD for the near future. If your Logs show more info about your HDD then turning back on after a reboot then it might be giving up.. Some systems I reboot nightly others weekly. Mostly my Ai DVR/NVRs get a nightly reboot seeing that is when the start of the Ai view changes over at midnight so I thought good time for a reboot. Only other time I would do a nightly reboot is if the HDD is going bad as it can help clear any issues it might have and or help it fail sooner lol.

Another thing that can help, If your HDD takes 2 months to fill, I would look at doing a format about 1/2 that time just to be safe. Or as soon as you notice that it is starting to have some issues. Crazy thing is my 2108E-HS fails on a full HDD even if the HDD is new where my 4116E-HS has gone for months without being formatted and setup for overwrite as my 2108 was and never had any issue. Both with security HDD only difference was my 4116E-HS was using WD Purple and the other was Seagate Security HDD.. Even changing out my HDD with another Seagate from 5108-E1 DVR that hasn't had any issues the 2108E-HS still just isn't happy so now I just keep formatting it before it gets full and I don't have any issues..

I think the HDD is about 5 years old. I don't know about normal or PC HDD. If I bought the HDD, it is a PC WD model, if it came from Amcrest, I don't know. I formatted the HDD, it now has 1.8 TB free out of 1.81 TB total. HDD status is "normal". Everything looks normal, but nothing records. Is there some setting that could cause the Record function to be turned off? The storage log has no entries.

I am not by my recorders atm, only thing I can think of, haven't tried but maybe look in the Schedule maybe if removed in there it might not show in the record mode page but find it hard to think both snapshot and record would be off in Schedule area.

Thought I mentioned here but might have been another thread, if all above don't work, might want to look at adding the Firmware again, might be corrupted system structure.
