Unable to access cameras outside network via iPhone app

Post by netherott »

I have 2 Amcrest wifi cams (IP2M-841 & IPM-721) and both are accessible and working correctly when accessed via PC on my home network and when I VPN in remotely.

My issue is with the IOS app. I have blocked outbound connections to the internet for the cameras but this seems to have created an issue accessing the cameras from the iOS app while I have VPN'd into my home network. On my local wifi network, it seems to work OK. Do the Amcrest cameras have issues with accessing cameras using the IP/DDNS setup option while on different networks?

I.E: Vpn network 10.10.10.10, accessing camera on 192.168.1.10. This does not work. The error message is "login timed out" and it's immediate. Almost like it's not even trying to connect.

Everything works if I add the cameras to the app using the P2P option and I allow those connections outbound to the internet. This is not how I want to access the cameras however.

Hello netherott ,

If you are trying to access the camera using IP/Domain method , make sure that TCP port of the camera is port forwarded and open.
