Surveillance Pro Software

Post by kthornley »

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
The GOOD- Love my cameras, I have 4 that I use for security at a remote second home. I use an IP2M-841B inside the home and three IP2M-842 cameras outside. Up until just recently I used the Amcrest App on my iPhone to view the cameras and had not yet set up motion and auto video/photo off notices and hadn't successfully gotten the email notifications to work. I would occasionally use the AmcrestView.com to view the cameras on my PC, but it was not very user friendly and only allowed one camera at a time to be viewed, so the phone was the preferred method. I recently installed the newest two bullet cameras outside and noticed the Surveillance Pro software and took a shot. Looked promising and allowed me to view all four cameras at the same time as well as set up tours and presets not to mention the motion alarm seemed to be easier to get going.
The BAD-That manual is horrible! Screen shots that don't match what is on the screen, notes and explanations (Sensitivity-There are ten levels. The sixth level has the highest sensitivity) that were written by someone who has only the loosest grip on English at best, but we forge on. The biggest problem is the LiveView will randomly drop the cameras off line and you will get Device Offline, Device not Recognized, Searching for Video or Video Stream timed Out. Not always all of them, not always the same one. When it happens, I can go on with my phone and see it, even though the Surveillance Pro says they are still off line. I have found that when it happens, I can do a couple of things to bring them back. Shut it all down and restart, go to the Devices View and do a Manual Login, or on the LiveView right mouse click on the camera in question and do a Login. This one is better because it does it directly and the one in the Devices view requires a click on "Yes I want to do this". Kick starting them is OK, but the going offline (when my phone says they ain't) precludes the using of this for Motion alarms and notifications, but not a killer.
The UGLY-Sometimes when they come back (regardless of whether it is forced or just happens on its own) an image will show up for one camera as the image of another, in other words what says Outside_1 will be showing me the Inside_View and the Inside_View will also be showing the Inside_View. Not always the same cameras getting confused, it has gone the gamit of Outside_2 showing in two different places, or even Outside_3 showing Inside_View while Inside_View says offline or any combination there of. I have also found that if I go to some other page (Devices or even my Desktop) when I come back one or more panels will now be displaying the image from the page I was just on. I just had it happen again not more than an hour ago with Outside_2 showing the Inside_View and this time when I went to the Devices page I also noticed that Ouside_2 device type was showing up as an 841B, even though it is actually an 842. Rebooting the software brought it back and now is showing the correct image and the correct type, but this shouldn't be happening. I did go out with the phone and it shows all the correct images at the time the Surveillance Pro doesn't.
Anyone else having issues with this software? We checked earlier and I am running the latest version. I do have screen shots of this phenomenon if anyone is interested, just didn't want this to get too big (he says as he notices this has become War and Peace)

I used Surveillance Pro for years when I had an iPhone. I have mostly Foscam cameras though. I never had any problems. Now that I have an Android, I use tinycam. I still set up the Amcrests just like I set up the Foscams. I assign static IP adresses to each camera and then set up port forwarding for each. I also use Dyn DNS service. I rarely have issues.

Now in the time of you ask How to select a C.C.T.V. System?, you will get answers through a security provider, as well as C.C.T.V. retailer and a number of friends. Generally the retailer does not only sell to C.C.T.V. equipment, they may even be the corner hardware store, with several C.C.T.V. on the shelf, or the local mass mart store, selling to C.C.T.V. equipment along with your groceries, or some popular and famous online destination promoting to all sorts of gadgets.

Ok, while using Surveillance Pro live view on a windows PC after closing i.e. exiting the app, it leaves a Amcrest Surveillance Pro.exe *32 process running in the background under Windows Task Manager. On my machines It has 134,620k of memory tied up and 13% of the CPU begins being used and fans kick on high etc. Other than manually ending that task through Windows Task Manager (sending my system back to normal and quiet again) is there any fix for this?

Hello Timothyde,

The software runs on the back ground as it is supposed to record on the back ground. There is no other option to get around this unfortunately.
