In a previous post, since deleted, I described how two of my ten cameras in an unmanned location suddenly went offline at the very same time. I had someone who is not tech savvy go over and they reported that the green light was steady on both cameras. One camera is on wifi and the other is hardwired to a switch. The other eight cameras are on the same LAN with a combination of hardwiring and wifi and are operating fine. I am using Surveillance Pro for monitoring some 1200 miles away. I have never had any issues with any of these cameras but the failure of both at the same moment is puzzling. My question is this, with regard to the hardwired camera, if I have someone do a hard reset of the camera returning it to factory settings will I be able to contact the camera using the default "admin" and "password" credentials? Since they both are showing as online with the green led solid, will the hardwired camera showup? I know the other will not since I would be unable to contact and enter a wifi network and password. I have a static IP assigned to them in the router via their MAC so they should be grabbed by the router in those positions. I don't care about the hacking vulnerability if I am unable to change the password remotely and must continue to use the default "password" since there are no identifying views in the camera view.
This has taught me a valuable lesson to leave a server operating while absent from this location. I have backup GENERAC, backup cellular devices operating there, battery backup and the ability to issues commands to reboot the modem and router individually. But, no server left operating!
Reset remote camera to gain access
Re: Reset remote camera to gain access
There is a lot of data in there that can make this work and or not work. So it is going to be hard to say yes I can do it with my Cameras on the West Coast and have there be an issue outside of just the settings of the cameras that have made it so you can't access them even after a Reset of your cameras.
First question do you have a Micro SD card in your cameras? Case in point I ask because yesterday my 941 went offline for an hour, I thought it would reboot and I didn't look back at the feed as I was watching a Movie, Seen it went offline as I happen to look up however as I said thought it would reboot so Kept watching my movie. After the movie was over I looked at the NVR and my camera was offline. So for me I sent a Remote command to the Power supply for the Power port it was connected to, This removing power from the camera, I then sent the command again and it restored the power and the camera came back online. I then went to the Cameras WebUI and sure enough the Cameras Micro SD was full. I formatted the MSD and it has not going offline again. Using a different camera I did Pt and zoomed into the camera and sure enough it was powered up with the Green light. So not sure why it was showing offline even though it was saying it was online.
So if you have a MSD have you had the person Remotely try to reboot the 2 cameras and or Remove the MSD from the camera and power back on to see if the system would return active?
Also don't know the cameras your using so I don't know if they are Powered by PDU or Wall Wort? I mean I know you said that it was showing green and what is odd is that one is Wifi and Other cable so to me first point of checking is my Router Pool to make sure they are not Blocked or black listed? Normally if black listed it would say so.. However next thing I would check is Power supply (PDU) if your working with say a Power system that splits to the 2 cameras it might be the power supply while enough to give LED might not be enough to transfer data.. I know it don't sound right but it does happen.. On a Wall Wort if say one of the CAPS is bad it might make your 12v 5amp power supply only able to supply 2.3 amps or less and while it should keep one camera working maybe on a Reboot the network chip for both went to Low Power to try and keep the camera going..
I am not sure how your connecting to your system. I am guessing a Tunneling Setup of some sort. It could be that on a Reboot the Router didn't hand out the right IP to the MACs for the cameras as this has happened on a Power cycle if the cameras are setup in DHCP and not static and leaving the Router to handle the address translation it might have been the camera beat the router on a Repower up...
Some of these issues could be cured with a Cameras Power Cycling. Personally if your not manning your network I would for sure have a Remote access power like a WebRelay see picture below. If you have access to your network then you could make access to a Relay power supply to remove and restore power if needed to see if that cure issues of Network or MSD..

Re: Reset remote camera to gain access
Oh sorry there are cheaper things out there that was pointed out last time I mentioned it. I guess some type of Wifi IOT plugs can do same thing and can access over your cell would be much cheaper route...

Re: Reset remote camera to gain access
Thanks very much for the prompt reply Revo! With regard to several points you raised, there are no MSDs, no POE (using wall warts), I have rebooted the router numerous times, the cameras were physically power cycled by an individual who has no technical knowledge but could unplug the wall wart and reinsert, contact is via P2P. I may use port forwarding in the future. I have the modem and router power cycle at 3am and all of the cameras auto-maintain at 4am. I also have other devices of various nature hanging off that LAN and they are functioning without issue. It baffles me how these two went simultaneously but your idea of the pool of addresses is interesting. However, all of the cameras and other devices are in close proximity IP wise.
I'm not fond of the idea of losing all the camera settings during a hard reset but if that would bring back a basic view I can live with that until I am able to get back in there. Thanks again!

Re: Reset remote camera to gain access
The question remains, if everything else if functioning correctly, will a successful reset to factory allow the camera to be reached outside of the LAN via P2P and out-of-the-box credentials? Of course, I am speaking of the hardwired camera only.
I have heard stories of cameras being hacked because owners never changed passwords away from the default "password." Based on that I suspect it may work.

Re: Reset remote camera to gain access
Sorry in my first reply I wasn't clear enough with my I can Do it part of my Post.
Yes
Even on my older 841 when setup with P2P if you Reset the camera it will let you log in with admin admin and once you do it will prompt you to Update the Password with something better after you login for the first time.
That is with the idea of as you said that it is your Wired Camera. I was trying to find a way to get your Wifi Camera reset but don't seem to be a way adding Wifi even within ASP. I can also make a connection with ASP to a new Remote Camera that is being setup for the first time. There are some Complex issues that would need to be addressed but can do it that way too.. To be honest it is Best on the Amcrest View Pro for first setup..
It makes no sense that a Wifi camera and wired camera would go offline at the same time unless it was IP blocked, turned off, power supply issue or IP range not within your Network range.
Last part P2P is great in most cases even from local stand point because no need to find a IP address to connect to. However the device needs to have access to the internet for P2P to work. So if lets say DNS is bad or Gateway was bad there might be no P2P also lets say your IP range is like mine in 10.0.0.xxx and for some reason the camera gets the 192.168.0.xx range after a reboot that camera would no longer have access to the P2P because the Router don't pool that IP so there would be no P2P to pass..

Re: Reset remote camera to gain access
If a hard reset is performed I assume it would go back to DHCP and P2P by default? It's been some while since I set any of these up but, as I recall that is the setting out of the box. The router has a static IP associated with that MAC so I expect it would grab it on the reserved IP address. I'm only reluctant to do the hard reset due to lost settings. But, since the only person I can get in there is technology impaired and I have no view now well... any view is better than none.
In addition to my own, I've setup many, many of these IP2M's (and virtually all of the other cameras models from Amcrest) for friends over the years but never had any reason to address them from outside the LAN other than troubleshooting after installation. I've also never used the IOS app to set them up. I always initialize them over the network using Amcrest IP Config to discover them or simply look into the router. I have one running live stream on YouTube in town on the front of a friend's store. He uses it for advertising. Coincidentally, it's down at the moment because he didn't pay the bill for the RTMP format conversion.
I was told by a semi-reliable individual that the camera MUST be setup LAN before it could be discoverable outside the network. That makes no sense to me. If it is online then it's online. This is why I've hesitated to blow out the settings just yet.
Let me add that I do appreciate your continued assistance here.

Re: Reset remote camera to gain access
If you would like to test this out on my camera first I would be more then happy to give you a SN to a 841 camera that is connected VIA cable and your access to my SN with admin admin would give you instant access.. I can PM you my phone number, I can VIDEO Call you if you like so you can watch that I Only PREFORM a Reset via the Reset button and that you then make first access to the camera again with default pass...
I have no issue with this.. I can tell you that I have done it on 4 different cameras today to confirm in different FW ranges to see if there was one FW over another that would stall such a Reset.. I would give you access to my West Coast Cameras for a Reset test however I don't have anyone local there for the next 2 months and did reset 2 cameras there today and set them up again if something happen to go wrong I wouldn't be able to Recover them for 2 months lol...
So as I said.. if you like I can PM you my cameras SN and a Phone Number we can talk as I do a Reset or I can do a Video chat call if you need more info then what can happen over a normal phone call...
I would also be more then willing to let you try my 956EB POE Camera.. That camera is in the back yard, I can do a Software Reset off the WebUI and let you make first Remote connection and Setup of the camera.. All cameras tested today all had same results.
So here is something I think would be wise however when your doing yours.. I would make sure that you have ASP on your Desktop and that you have your cameras SN installed in a Camera for setup after you make the Reset and connect, Then in truth I would bring up the camera in ASP, go to DeviceCFG, then Network, TCP/IP and make the change to the Cameras IP and DNS record setting the camera to Static IP... Even if your Router hands that out I would still make the change in the Camera. If your in USA.. DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 has never failed for access to my Remote cameras...

Re: Reset remote camera to gain access
Sorry about the DHCP. Yes the Camera will default to DHCP and again with the Router even if not setup to hand a IP out the router will give one to the next open spot. Then with that the Cameras P2P would be come active and you would have access to the camera on App.
However even if the camera gets the Router hand out with a Static IP setup in your router the Mac Address of your Camera never changes and this the router should hand out the IP even after A reset...
