Motion Detection: Number of snapshots per email

Post by netman »

I just bought a ProHD IP2M-841B camera to see how it compares to my old Foscam cameras. I am upgraded to the latest available firmware version 2.420.AC00.10.R dated 1/6/2016.

How do I set the number of snapshots sent per each email when a motion detection event gets triggered? I cannot seem to find such a setting on the camera's web gui config screens. Does it not exist at all?

My old Foscams will send one email per detection with up to 6 snapshots attached which show the detected motion in sequence, which is a very smart and useful way to view the captured snapshots.

This new Amcrest camera is sending only one snapshot per email, which makes it impossible to see the sequence of snapshots on one screen in my GMail client on my Android phone or tablet as the motion happened. All I get is a cluster of dozens of individual emails in a row, each with a single picture attached. This is not very useful and is not going to work for me.

Hello netman,

Unfortunately its not possible to increase the number of snapshots per email. You can set the 'interval' under email settings which decides how often the emails are sent while the camera is triggered and the 'anti dither' option decides how long each motion detection lasts.

The email notifications is the main thing I use on these cameras. I had Foscam cameras at the office, and while the user interface was very clunky, the ability to send out a single email and control the number of pictures is a MUST. I like the Amcrest camera and web interface better, but I think I will be sending the Amcrest camera back and getting another Foscam for home.

Hello lemmy999,

Sorry for the inconvenience. We are proactively working on product improvements based on customer feedback and the email snapshot is definitely in our list for future addition.

Any more news on this feature?

My old Foscam Fi8918W cameras will send from 4 to 6 snapshots per motion-detect email, and this is an *INCREDIBLY USEFUL* feature because it allows you to see the triggering event, plus a series of "followup" snapshots, all together on one single email screen in the GMail client on a smartphone.

Having to open up a series of individual emails with only one snapshot per mail on a smartphone is so cumbersome of a process that it almost totally thwarts the usefulness of having motion detect emails at all.

If we could get the triggering event snapshot, plus at least 2 or 3 more followup snapshots, spaced 2 or 3 seconds behind each other, all attached to the same email, this would be very useful.

Surely the camera has enough memory and processing power onboard to handle doing this? Even if it would require buying and plugging in a micro-sd card to use as working storage, I'd gladly do that.

If we could configure the number of followup snapshots behind the triggering event, and the delay in seconds between them, all to get sent out as attachments to a single email, that would be perfect.

I recently purchased 3 ProHD IP2M-841B cameras and agree with NETMAN that the cameras should be capable of storing several snapshots for each email sent. I like the software of the these cameras but the multi-snapshot per email makes perfect sense. Shouldn't be that difficult to update the camera firmware.

+5 on this feature request. Not only to email but also to storage. Foscam could do this a long time ago. Please add this.

I thought I had read somewhere that newer firmware allowed us to set the number of snapshots in each email. However I have upgraded to the latest (2.420.AC00.16.R, build : 2016-09-09) but I still do not see the option. I just get 1 email per even with 1 picture now where I used to get many emails per event. So it is some improvement, but often the one email has completely missed the "event".

Under Event -> Motion Detect I have "Send Email" checked and "Snapshot" is checked and "3" is selected.

Those 1 3 5 buttons don't do anything, they are fake.

That stinks. I was getting ready to buy some more Amcrest cameras since I thought this had been taken care of. I guess I will keep looking.
