After installing the camera, it would take snapshots when motion was detected per the Interval specification in Camera | Video | Snapshot (3S) and per the no. of snapshots specification in Event | Video Detection | Motion Detection (3 snapshots). After I added a Smart Plan, the no. of snapshots taken when there is motion is unpredictable. For example, during a 24S video recording, only two snapshots, 6S apart were taken. Snapshot is enabled in both the IVS and Smart Motion Detection as well as in Event | Video Detection | Motion Detection (3 snapshots). I have two questions:
- Does anyone know what's driving this unexpected snapshot behavior ?
- On a related issue, in Camera | Video | Snapshot, Snapshot Type will not save when the value is set to "Event". It reverts back to "General" automatically.

Re: IP8M-2696EW-AI Snapshots
Event and General are Setting types not changing the type of settings you want it setup for.. Let me be Clear
When you change the Drop down from General to Event you make changes in there and save or apply that will be for that setting
Don't change from General then the settings in there are changed and saved then that setting is in effect as well. It is not a setting like I want it for this or that only it is a Place holder for making changes to the settings
Next interval is being changed to 3s then you would get 1 image in a single event if left under normal settings like on the event page of some cameras you can choose 1 3 or 5 images and so if you set to 3s that means it will take 1 image every 3 seconds so in an event you choose 3 images you would get 1.. That is because normally when setup for 1s that will give you 1 image a sec and 3 images in the settings will give you 1 image per sec for 3 images..
Then something that needs to be cleared up as well.. General if snapshots are setup a person will want to make changes to the interval or it will fill the MSD fast..
So under Storage Schedule and snap shots if that is setup for full time like DVR/NVR are setup to do out of the box and I can't remember if I setup mine for full time jpg or if it was setup I do change mine to take an image every hour on my AI camera just for feedback and I have that FTP to my server and email sent for events.. However if you get notices about motion and you live in area like I do then you will hate it when your getting 1000 emails a day for motion so I only have IVS events send me emails. However IVS rules only get 1 image in email

Re: IP8M-2696EW-AI Snapshots
Thanks a lot for your response but I don't quite understand what you're saying so let me give it another try. Please note that in all cases below I am referencing the exact verbiage in the camera's setup !
1. In Setup page "Event | Video Detection | Motion Detection", the setting "Snapshot" has (3) hard coded values: 1 3 5. I highlighted the 5 and saved it, no problem.
2. In Setup page "Camera | Video | Snapshot, the setting "Interval" is set to 3S.
3. Prior to introducing IVS and smart video detection, I used to get 5 snapshots with each one being 3S apart. The JPG files were timestamped EXACTLY 3S apart. This is a confirmed observation and not an opinion.
4. After I introduced IVS with snapshot enabled on the IVS page (this Snapshot setting is on the "IVS" page and separate from the one in item #1), the no. of snapshots I get is 1 (one) per detected motion event regardless of the duration of the recorded video clip. On this IVS page, there is no option to select number of snapshots as is the case with item #1 above.
5. Since the IVS page does not have an option to select number of snapshots desired, I am SUSPECTING that this overrides the "5" I selected in item #1 above so when there is a smart plan in effect, the camera produces one snapshot per detected motion event; no other option. If Snapshot is not enabled (checked) on the IVS page, no snapshots are created.
So:
- Is my suspicion in item #5 above correct ? If not, please reference specific pages in this camera's Setup as I have done above, otherwise I am unable to follow what you're saying.
- I did not understand your response for the Snapshot Type (General vs. Event). If you can give it another try, I would appreciate it.

Re: IP8M-2696EW-AI Snapshots
Ok sorry i guess maybe there was some other settings that was changed in your cameras settings. Normally if someone setup camera with 3s with the normal anti dither settings it would only produce 2 images if 3 was picked and again 5 picked only 2 images would be sent.. I leave mine at 1s so I just tested some of mine that have 1, 3 and 5 image options as not all of my Amcrest offer that some only 1..
About the General and Trigger you had mentioned your cameras settings were changing from one to the other if you choose Trigger (Event)
On your first post you talk about Event and General that it won't save to Event. I was trying to explain that it isn't a setting where it would save to that window it is a drop down box for making changes in the setting of them features General (Full time image capture) and Event for Trigger of alarms or motion and any other that work on event. That will always revert back to General when you leave the page and return to the Snapshot again for adjustments just remember to drop down and change to event make changes there and save..
Back to the 3s looking over the short time I wrote this, I have 18 events and out of the 18 most of them are with 2 image only (I did a factory Reset) setup motion, email, set to 5 images as well and let it run for another 5 min and had 12 more alerts. Again most of them are 2 images and some even only 1

Re: IP8M-2696EW-AI Snapshots
For motion events I will be relying on the videos instead of snapshots. I have reverified my observations on snapshot frequency during EVENTS; the snapshot frequency is erratic. However, I have also implemented scheduled snapshots (GENERAL) and the frequency of these snapshots is spot on. Thanks for your help re: General vs. Event.
Overall the smart features of this camera are doing a masterful job of eliminating false positive motion detections events. The standard Sensitivity and Threshold settings plus the Regions in the motion detection section do an incomplete job on this issue. False positives are annoying and perhaps even dangerous. It's like someone crying wolf too many times and then when an event requires attention, it's ignored.
I appreciate your help.
