IP2M-841 & Deskshare IP Camera Viewer

Post by henderjl »

I just received an Amcrest IP2M-841 and am trying to set it up for internet access. It works fine with the Chrome browser from anywhere. My preferred PC software for accessing my cameras is Deskshare's "IP Camera Viewer". It works fine when my PC is on the same network as the camera, but not when I am away from home trying to access by internet. I am using the correct IP address and I know how to forward ports. I have seven Foscam cameras and have no problem accessing them. As stated above, I can access the Amcrest from outside my network with Chrome. On the Foscams, you only enter one value for the port. I have each camera set up on its own port. With the Amcrest, there are blanks for TCP, UDP, and HTTP ports. I have them all forwarded to the Amcrest camera and have tried all three ports in the Deskshare setup, but no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to the forum

So I am not sure I understand all that your saying when it comes to being able to access the Amcrest camera from outside your network on Chrome however your not able to access VIA a 3rd party software from the same computer? However before you say you can from your network and not outside? Maybe you meant to say that you can access your Foscam on Chrome.. Either way. Normally there are some things that need to be done to get access to your camera from a Remote location over the Internet. Keep in mind that any connection from the outside to your IP camera is not a very safe thing to do, don't matter the type of IP camera used..

Not all IP cameras are setup the same way. Amcrest offers P2P connections from ASP and the Amcrest View Pro app using P2P there is no port forwarding or special things, just need the App(s) setup using SN and Pass.. Some cameras maybe like your Foscam they might be on old Tech type setup that don't require all the Security to make connections from outside your network. This might make it easier for you to make connections but also leaves that device easier for someone to gain access to..

For the Amcrest camera to be forwarded need to use UDP, TCP and HTTP ports. This means when you forward them ports you will need to make sure to also use the same HTTP port for your local network. Like lets say you choose to use 8080 for http. So from outside your network it would be lets say you use Charter for service provider, to access your camera it would be something like 50.84.83.120:8080 using the http and the rest before the 50.. Then lets say in your network it would be something like 192.168.1.120:8080 and again with the http and stuff before to access your camera locally..

Anyway here is some info from Amcrest written in 2021 maybe this will be helpful

Yes, I know about internal & external IP addresses and how to forward ports. My problem is only with Deskshare software. I have seven Foscam cameras and they all work with the Deskshare software. My new Amcrest camera works on local and outside networks with a browser, and "IP Cam Viewer" on my Android phone. It works with Deskshare on local network using local IP address, but not outside local network using my static external IP address.

I guess there might not be anyone on the Forum that uses the 3rd Party software your taking about Deskshare Software? Or not looked at the forum lately. I can't say why it isn't working and why another Camera does (Might be that the Amcrest is setup more Secure) and as such won't want to be accessed with the 3rd Party Sofware.

I don't think it is a ONVIF issue however you might want to turn off the Auth for testing to see if it makes it work for your softwrae, You can find that by logging into the cameras WebUI, click on Setup, then click on Network, then Connection, then in the tabs click ONVIF. Change from Enable to Disable. This will turn off the system from using the right password over a ONVIF connection and won't have a reflection on the cameras security it self. However if it does make the connection work I personally wouldn't leave it disabled for long if you have your camera setup to have open access to the Internet via your WAN IP address...

Outside of that next best thing is to look for a Forum from the 3Rd party software you trying to run and see if there have been others in that forum that use Amcrest cameras on that software as they would have better idea what it took them to gain access..

Sorry wasn't more help
Be Safe.

Thank you for your suggestion. I disabled ONVIF, but no luck. You had a good idea about trying a Deskshare forum. I will see if they have one.
