Internet access to camera IP2M-842W

Post by pierreforget »

Hi All,

This is to help some people who has this type of camera and previously had other makes of camera. On Foscam, for example, I need to open only one port (8086 for example) in the router to view the camera (settings and video) from the Internet.

With Amcrest IP2M-842W, if only one port (HTTP port) is opened in the router (8086), I cannot see the video but can see the settings. You really have to open the TCP port (37777 for example) to view the image from the Internet.

I called the Amcrest service for this and gave them the credentials, so they could access the camera. They told me right away that the camera was defective and sent me a new one. So, the service is excellent, but I think the other camera was probably only missing the open port.

Hope that will help.

Support uses the "defective camera" excuse whenever they don't have a solution. Happened to me. Merely because I couldn't get the video to display on playback they told me to send my camera back. Well, I was having the same problem on all three camera's, were they defective too? Never sent it in, but found there was a bug with Amcrest and using special characters in the administrator password.

This is NOT the way support should be handling matters. RMAing a camera that is not "defective" just because support cannot get you off the phone, or cannot resolve the matter is not a valid excuse.
