How to save event videos to NAS?

Post by hennesseystealth »

I have a WD EX2100 8Tb Cloud server (directly connected to my router via CAT5). I setup a share called "Amcrest" and made it public (no sign in required). I then opened the Amcrest Web View software and went to Setup\Storage\Destination and made sure the Path was set to NAS for both record and snapshot. Then on the NAS tab, I clicked "enabled" and set the server address to the static IP address for my Cloud server and the remote directory to "Amcrest."

However, at this point nothing is being stored to that NAS. The above was just a logical guess at what should work, but clearly doesn't. Anyone know where I went wrong?

Also keep in mid that when set to save to a NAS, it does not do the same file management that it will do with an SD card where it will delete old recordings, this it can easily fill up the NAS and fail to record when full. From the Amcrest cameras I have used so far, none seem to offer the ability to delete old files manually.

In my experience when dealing with these limitations (at least until Amcrest catches up with others and adds automatic file deletion), you will need to see if the NAS allows for scripting to automatically delete recordings older than 30 days (or any other time), or have a PC on the network mount the smb share as a network drive, and then run a script to delete older files in the camera's save directory on a daily or weekly basis.

Another option is to check if the NAS has an NVR app built in (e.g., like on some synology NAS devices, where the NAS initiates the connection to the camera and does its own recording and file management.

I followed the instructions in the video exactly and I get an error message that I only have read rights when I hit the test button. That prevents the camera from writing to the NAS. I am the NAS admin and setup the share so I have full read/write permissions. I made sure that I turned on FTP and WebDAV on the NAS and the share. Still, same error message.
