I have 5 IP2M-841 cameras. Nothing on the sticker on the boxes identifies a version, so I presume they are v1. All 5 were running FW 2.20.AC00.18.R dated 6-29-17. Today I upgraded one of them to FW 2.40.AC00.18.R dated 2-17-20. I had backed up the config prior to upgrading. After upgrading, I reset the camera to factory defaults, then tried to import the backup - it immediately said it failed, and I lost connection to the camera - I had to power cycle it bring to it back online. Comparing a non-upgraded camera's setting with the current one, I found a couple of things that needed to be reset to my specs, but was able to get it back to "normal" without too much trouble, except...
I had to recreate Preset 1, and if I move away from it and tell it to go there, it works. However, it no longer goes there automatically after a reboot. All 5 of my cameras have returned to their Preset 1 position after reboots for several years. It seems the new firmware breaks the "return to home" after reboot? Or I am forgetting something that I might still need to do to configure this?
Also, is there a list of changes to the FW over various versions? There was nothing available for this on the FW download page. Thanks,
~bh
Firmware Update breaks Preset after Reboot
Re: Firmware Update breaks Preset after Reboot
Welcome to the JS FW family of Cameras.. Sadly there are somethings that are either out or will need to be added after the fact. Maybe what your talking about will return.
I have a good Chunk of 841's in my line up. Personally I don't have any 841 that goes home. However I do have the ones that are in the 2017 FW line up however mine is 2.520 not sure of a 2.20 line!"?? I do know that I still have one that even has an older FW because I like to test things out and see how things word between models. When I click on the Check for updates it says my current FW is 009 and there is a new one 011, this is the last known Stable FW before the JS updates starting in 2019...
Now While I say mine don't move back to Home as your calling it that is because for me Home is where Preset 1 wouild be. and maybe yours isn't at any zoom factor and so returning to last position would be your home however mine is zoomed in some and it does go home as you call it... However in some of my other Dome PTZ camera after a reboot and or a time that I have moved the camera with my controller and didn't put back to home after that set time it will return to home. I have a couple that are called home in menu and some that home is just what you make it a Preset, tour or pattern... However most are just setup for Preset 1..
I do really wish any Version of my 841's would do this sadly they don't. Also use to have all new FW however because of Security issues I have moved them all besides 2 back to 2.250, one is 841 on the 2019 one, and a 841E that is on new 2019 but is different 2.260 because it uses a different FW..
I have some from 2015 and honestly they are the most stable of the 841's I own. The last one on 2019 is one from 2015 all the others were very bad on the new FW. After a Reboot they would be all off in la la land. So when I would go back to the camera in the AM after I woke the camera wouldn't be pointing where it was before reboot..
Then some people found there was a Issue only when they had a 3rd or more Preset set however I have some cameras only with 1 preset and it was still off crazy. I did out off all mine have one that having more then 3 presets would make it crazy. After Reset and only setting 1 preset it was fine. So I setup a second. This was fine sadly only for about a month. After this it started acting up again and come to find out it installed old things back in from before I did a Reset.. One of the ones I have 2.250 on I have reset every week and after it is back it is zoomed out but in right place. Press Preset 1 and it is back... Some of the others as I was saying with NEW FW when it would reboot it would end up in backwards position, I would hit Preset 1 and it would be off where I had preset 1 a few PReset 1's ago not where it was before Reboot and not where it was even the last time I had a PReset 1 there..
Sadly all the talk is that once you go JS FW you shouldn't go to older FW and after it first came out in 2019 some people tried and Bricked there camera. Amcrest has said they are or have been trying to work on a way to have the End User be able to take it back to an older FW however right now Amcrest is only one that can do that and the camera would have to be sent back to them to have it done...
Also about the LIst of Changes.. This is something that don't seem to be done anymore as I have not seen 1 FW released in the last 2 years that have Change Logs. The ones that are on the FW page showing Change logs in 2019 or 2020 FW will result in bad page if you try to access it...
So what I know, Is the 841 had a Audio Hacking ability in the 2019 that was solved, Also 2019 and 2020 FW is Chrome Able and IE is no longer supported, Also there was some update to the ability to send Emails however that is Hit and miss still for some...

Re: Firmware Update breaks Preset after Reboot
You are correct about the version number - it is 2.520, not 2.220 as my typo indicated. Ironically, 2.20 makes more sense in terms of upgrading to 2.40
but as has been said elsewhere, the date stamps are the key.
Yes, by "going home" I simply mean back to preset 1, which is the only preset I have defined.
Oh... I think I just solved the "homing" problem! The new FW remembers where I last manually positioned the camera, but doesn't remember if I go to a preset. So if I go to preset 1, then do a little jiggle back and forth to manually land in the same spot as the preset, that's where it goes after a reboot. 3 attempts in a row bear that out.
I had seen other posts (yours?) about JS firmware, but wasn't sure what it referred to - maybe I should have asked before I jumped. Anyway I'm still unclear on the dis/advantages of the JS FW over the prior. Are there security concerns? Also, you indicate that attempts to go back to older FW brick the camera, but you seem to have done it yourself successfully. Can you clarify that please, in case I want to take my upgraded cam back to 2.520 (assuming I can still access this version)?
I don't know if it's significant, but all of my cams were manufactured from 2017-01 through 2018-12.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Firmware Update breaks Preset after Reboot
Yeah that would be the V2 where the older would be the V1. So I do have a few V2 and V1 I have not bought a V3 seeing they Removed the Audio and alarm in and out of the camera and that does me no good for remote placement of Mics for the cameras.. My 2018 camera is plagued with Preset LA LA land..
Sadly about going to older FW that is something you could check with Amcrest and see if they are still offering the service. I did I think last week or week before see someone else mention they had their system returned to older FW by Amcrest but as of now if someone was to take a chance and try to take a 841 back to 2.250 without Amcrest intervention it could Brick the camera. Also someone that has had Amcrest long time that has a couple of 841's says he has the 2.250 in folder and tried to take his FW 2020 camera back but failed. He said he was able to take one back that was on the first release however said that now some of the things that used to work in 2.250 that didn't work when he went to the JS says while the icons came back the camera no longer functions with them.
So if you wanted to go back Personally I would check to see if that is Something Amcrest is still doing, Not sure with things as they are right now and what R&D and Support Techs are still on duty at this current time but would be safest way to go back if you really needed to...
