Field of View changing with Resolution ???HELP

Post by darknes01 »

Hello,
I have multiple Reolink cams and just bought my 1st amcrest.
I noticed that when i lower the resolution from 2688x1520 to 1920x1080 the field of view is getting smaller?
Non of my reolink cams do that. so i guess i want to know is this normal behavior for amcrest or am i doing something wrong? I thought resolution is the amount of pixels not the filed of view?

My view:
A high resolution image is usually measured by its level of detail. If your Reolink camera takes a 2688 image and resizes it to a 1920 with the same FOV, then the 1920 image has a lower level of detail. If your Amcrest camera just takes a 1920 piece out of a 2688 image, the 1920 would have a smaller FOV but the same level of detail as the 2688. I guess the camera designers just choose one based on various reasons. All Amcrest cameras are not necessarily the same.

I just bought 43 cameras and I found out about this FOV issue. It's supper annoying for my use case. Does any one know if there's any way to get the downsampled image with the same FOV than having it changed?

@hectorsab Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

43 cameras and I thought I had a lot lol... Need more info on your cameras that your trying to down but it kind of sounds like jack7 answered the question there... Sadly if something isn't designed to do something then really little since trying to force it

Substream with reduced resolution will have sam FOV as full resolution mainstream.

If your purpose for using reduced resolution mainstream is to reduce the video stream bandwidth and record smaller video files, then try full resolution mainstream using h.265 compression instead of h.264 . That would reduce bandwidth and file size about 50% with no loss in quality. H.265 will require more processing power to decode. So using it would depend on your configuration and processing power at the receiving end to decode for display.
