Doorbell with an Intercom system
just want to share what i read in an amazon product review. it appears the doorbell works with an existing intercom system. you can read it here, https://www.amazon.com/review/R29UZGB5GWB2EF. it may be helpful for folks who are wondering if the ad110 works with an existing intercom setup.
Re: Doorbell with an Intercom system
Well Geez I just hand drew out the one that I was going to post. That means I don't have to post it after all lol....
So I wanted to expand on this some because that Picture is kind of mis-leading... Here is why and I do have it in my drawing lol.. .
The Doorbell and Intercom you don't take the Intercom out of the front door unless you wanted to as some prefer to keep it also some have them Deep installed...
Also while it can't be seen very well.. IT is in need to note that the Chimes by Nu Tone and intercom system is a Complex system... Relay is needed on all the older Chimes and Intercom systems that was from 70, 80 and 90's. The Intercom systems have 2 16v 30va Transformer already however they are needed for the system and is why they show a transformer there... Please note that the Relay isn't the run of the mill Relay there 2 things needed to note here. One is it is AC because the power being used is AC. If you are going to use or want to use a 16Vac power to use your doorbell camera you can just make sure you get the Right Relay. 2nd thing is if you wanted you could even use a Bridge Rectifier and a 12Vdc relay if you had them around.
Also if you are keeping the Intercom in place at the doors 5 and 9 connection in the diagram above to the 2 wires on the Intercom button.
As I stated before the Intercom and Multi Tone units from years past are Complex systems. The wires going to the Doorbell Chime has no power to speak of. One side of it is ground the other side of it has a Minor voltage across it on a Voltage Sense setup. Once the unit sees the voltage drop then the Chime plays and or the Intercom system plays the chime and also sends info to all stations if setup to do so.
I was going to upload my drawing today after I finished with my Friends setup we just did.
PS. The Transformer in that drawing that is in that picture has Mains Voltage and I would honestly say don't use that type for this install unless you will install it in the Metal box hidden from anyones reach. It would be best to use a Power Brick. This plugs into the outlet and has a Screw hole to keep it plugged in. I would to be honest have this installed in an area that little fingers can't play with it...
By the way Voltage don't Kill alone the Amps will... Please note that most of the Power supplies on these are AC mains 110vac and MORE AMPS then 1 person can stand. 24vac and 16ac while safe under normal use please note that if your sweating or in a High Static area this can kill you. IF you don't know what your Doing please HIRE someone that does. Always I don't care what side of the power your working with ALWAYS turn off the power before playing with any of these things
