I recently bought a IP2M-841B camera. I connected it up to my wireless network and everything was working fine. A few days after the camera is running I noticed I was no longer able to get to Internet web sites. When I would ping the sites via DNS name it failed but if I pinged them via IP address it worked. I then went to my router and ran some diagnostics. The router was able to resolve DNS just fine.
Next I tried setting up manual DNS servers on the router (Google Public DNS - 8.8.8.8) and after applying that I was able to get to web sites via DNS names. A day or two later it failed again with the same symptoms and if I switched my router back to "Obtain DNS servers automatically" it would start working again.
Further troubleshooting i found that I didn't even need to change DNS settings, I could just go to the web page on the router where you make the change and hit the apply button without making any changes and it would also cause it to start working again.
The only thing that changed on my network is the addition of the Amcrest camera. I decided to unplug the camera and it was off for several weeks and my web browsing continued to work just fine. I then plugged the camera back in and a day later my web browsing stopped again.
I have successfully repeated this multiple times and it appears that the camera is doing something to my router so DNS doesn't pass through. If the camera is turned off everything works. If the camera is on web browsing fails within a day or two.
My camera is Model IP2M-841B. It is running Software Version 2.420.AC00.11.R, build : 2016-01-06.
My router is a Netgear D6200. It is running Firmware Version V1.1.00.20_1.00.20.
I have many other devices on my network and they all work fine and have never caused an issue with my router. I've had my router for a few years and this it the first anything like this happened and because I can replicate the issue I am pretty sure there is something going on with the camera causing it.
Has anyone else had similar issues?
DNS Issue with IP2M-841B and Netgear D6200
Re: DNS Issue with IP2M-841B and Netgear D6200
Hello mr48,
There was no reports of any such issue with the cameras. I would suggest you check the Network settings of the camera. The DDNS, UPNP and and P2p are the settings that needs router access all the time. Also sync with NTP server option under setup > System > General > Date and time.
You can try turning off all or some of these to check if that fixes. Also the IP settings for the camera including DNS. Make sure that its in line with the routers settings. I mean the DNS servers used can be the same as the routers.

Re: DNS Issue with IP2M-841B and Netgear D6200
I just bought 2 IP3M-943W, connected them via Wifi and I started to notice my internet connection going down 2-3 times per day. I noticed that it appears that it is an issue with DNS, since I can ping and connect to IPs but I cannot resolve domains. I am pretty sure that the cameras are causing the issue since never had any problem with internet going down, specially problem with DNS.
After some research I found a post where a person also I reports the same issue and posted his solution. I am going to try that solution but wanted already to post here so other people with the same problem can have something try out.
