Delete Video

Post by rfree190 »

I have set up my system and adjusted the cameras. The time was wrong for the first day of recording.
I have adjusted the time (can't use the time sync as it throws the time off by about 12 hours) and it is syncing to my PC.

How do I delete all the video that was recorded during set up and while the time was wrong?
It is throwing off all my searches now that the system is up and fully running.

Thanks!

Does anyone from Amcrest check these forums?
Looking for help, but there doesn't seem to be any.

I haven't found a way to delete specific files on the DVR yet. It looks like there is an option is Settings > System > Auto Maintain that allows you to automatically delete files that are a specified number of days old. I don't know if that is what you want to do though. It sounds like the files with the incorrect time stamp are mixed in with recordings that you want to keep.

Are you wanting to delete specific files within a time range and keep others that are datestamped within that same range?

At this point, now that I have everything setup and running, I think I would like to just delete everything and start fresh. There have been no events that occurred that I need to keep. But that darn time-stamp keeps messing with my playback.

The only way I've found is to format the chip - which deletes everything on the card.
Home Page > Device Config > HDD
Pick your camera name from the list of cameras in the left hand column
Then select 'Format Disk' from the dropdown in the HDD Operation column header
This will restart your camera, or at least make it unavailable while the format is taking place, and then after a minute or so it will be back with an empty disk.

Seems stupid not to have a delete for individual videos though.

When in Playback reviewing videos, there is a nice delete function where you press on the video and slide up to display a Trash icon hi-lited in red. The only problem is that it don't work. Yup, you can slip-and-slide the video to the trash icon as many time as you want but darn video never gets deleted.

As someone already noted, the only sure bet of cleaning up your HDD is to format it. It's what I did.

I also just tried the delete function (in the app) where you press on the video and slide it up to the Trash icon highlighted in red. It appears to work, but as Javelin noted the video never gets deleted.

However, I have verified the earlier comment by johnnyv that if you can get by with cleaning out older files you can free up almost all of your space by using the Setup / System / Auto Maintain sequence in the PC Desktop application (I haven't seen this in the Android app.)

1. Click the Setup button in the top menu bar.

2. Then select "System" option. Within that select "Auto Maintain"

3. Check the option to "Auto Delete Old Files". This will cause a new option to appear called "Customized" in which you can set the number of days ago to delete

4. Set the "number of days ago to delete" to 1 more than you want to keep (i.e. the default of 1 means everything from yesterday and before)

5. Hit Save and Manual Reboot to execute the setting.
- All files that are the specified number of days old and older will be deleted.

6. Once the device has rebooted, you can reset the the option back to not automatically delete files by unchecking the Auto Delete box and Saving. Or, you can leave it set and have older files automatically deleted.

This solves the space problem and is a lot less hassle than formatting the disk. However, it would still be nice to have the option to delete individual video files. Ideally it would be a simple option right on the Playback screen -- perhaps a trashcan associated with the File List on the right (in the PC viewer) or with the date range in the Android App.

Has anyone come up with a better way to delete files? I am amazed that in all this time Amcrest has not come up with anything better than setting autodelete to 1 day, restarting, and then resetting it. I am starting to really dislike this software and wishing I hadn't purchased these devices.

I am not able to delete recorded videos on Amcrest Cloud. When selecting the trash can at the top of the vid, the "cancel delete" screen pops up but is greyed out. Cannot select either option and must go back in the browser. I have tried Chrome, Mozilla and Explorer - same problem with each. This was not a problem before the software upgrade by Amcrest a few weeks ago.
Anyone find a solution?
