I have been experimenting with motion activated recording on an 841 with the latest firmware and have the following results.
I set the dither to 1 so that any motion over 1 second will start the recording. Actually, the recording will include 5 seconds of "prerecording" as specified in Record Control. I set the record delay to 30 to extend the record time after motion stops by 30 seconds.
However, once the 30 seconds expires the camera seems to need time to "processes" the mp4 file and send it to my ftp server. This takes around 3-4 minutes over a hardwired ethernet link. During this time the camera does not respond to motion so there is a 3-4 minute dead time before a new recording starts.
This not good for surveillance applications.
Cameria can't perform back to back motion recordings
Re: Cameria can't perform back to back motion recordings
Hello and welcome to the forum.
I'm assuming that this is a remote server and so the time taken will be dependant on your upstream connection speed which may be the limiting factor.
One option that comes to my mind would be for you to save only snapshots to the ftp server and to save video to the onboard SD card, this is what I do although in my case it's to my NAS on my own internal LAN.

Re: Cameria can't perform back to back motion recordings
Hello and welcome to the Forum.
So I wonder if you have your camera setup with a MSD card? While you don't have to set your system up to Record there it will or can use the MSD as a Buffer. Also in the event that there is a Network loss it will or can if you check it to use the MSD as a Backup in case of a Loss...
I wonder if the issue is Pack Duration? In the same area of where you can choose 5sec pre record is also how long you want each pack to be... Again I think main issue might be if you don't have a MSD it might only FTP the whole time you have set for Package size.... Then another thing I wonder if the 5 sec pre record even works without a Card installed seeing that is where it would store all live video to be able to start recording 5 seconds before the event time?

Re: Cameria can't perform back to back motion recordings
Here's more insight. The ftp server is on my local 1gbps network. It can transfer files (write) about 65MB/s. The video files range from 8MB to 21MBs. So the camera is the gating factor in the transfer time not the server or network.
As I understand it, Pack Duration is only used for continuous recording. Mine is set to 8 minutes so that does not seem to be a factor.
No I don't have a MSD installed. I don't think it is needed for buffering since 5 seconds of mp4 video is only around 5MB. I don't have an extra one sitting around so I can't test this.
One more thing, the 3-4 minute delay between recordings doesn't happen every time. I will have to investigate more to determine if I can identify any circumstances that lead up to this situation.
Is anybody else experiencing this?
