Audio setup

Post by jedimama »

Hi--

We have the 720p system. We have a powered microphone that we have been able to hook up to a speaker to make sure it works. But when we hook it up to the DVR we don't get any sound through the same speaker. Are there settings within the system that we need to change? We cannot find any information in the manual or youtube videos about adding audio. If we can get the mic to successfully work with the DVR, it should also work with the monitor that we have connected to the DVR by HDMI, correct?

I would appreciate any help with this.

Thank you,

jen

Go to Settings > Camera > Encode. There is an Audio Enable checkbox on the main stream and sub stream. Be sure that they are checked and see if that helps.

I am unclear what the options are under Settings -> Camera -> Encode.
Audio Encode:
G711a
PCM
G711u

Audio Source:
Normal
HDCVI

It is my understanding the HDCVI does not have audio built in??

I believe those settings apply if your camera either has a built-in mic or you attach a mic to the cameras that came with the system.

Thank you jonnyv.

Are you familiar with the physical connection to get audio?
It looks like I have one RCA Audio Output and one RCA Audio Input.

How are most people getting audio in? It looks like many sites have microphones that attach to the camera.
I need a standalone mic? Any recommendations?

I haven't messed with the audio. Here is a video that shows a method of connecting an inline mic. It looks a little like a pain if you have already wired your camera.

Thanks for the info. We did have those settings checked. I'll take a look at the video and see if it can help us with our setup.

Thanks,

Were you ever able to sort out the audio issue on your DVR? If so how? I have the 1080 version and I cant seem to get any sound. In the software all I see is a place to enable it per cam, my system only has a single input and single output not one per cam.

Thank you

I just hooked up a standalone mic to my system using the audio input on the back of the DVR. It appears to record the audio on the Camera 1 channel with no apparent way to configure it. I tried messing with the Audio Enable settings for each channel, but could never get it off of channel 1. I'm not using a speaker. When I view the DVR live stream, I have to click the little speaker icon at the top of the Channel 1 window to hear the audio.

It is recording the audio, which is what I wanted. So, I can work around the fact that the audio is locked to Channel 1.

Hello johnnyv ,

Yes the audio can be recorded only to channel one unfortunately.
