adding wireless camera to NV4108E

Post by padmaster »

I'm having difficulty adding my wireless camera (IP2M-851W) to my NV4108E.
I have 4 POE cameras operating properly.
My first question is, shouldn't the 4108E have an antenna? Mine doesn't.
The wireless camera has a green LED inside that just blinks constantly and occasionally goes red momentarily.
I did ask one of the reps on chat and he said I can add any combination of POE and wireless cameras to the 4108E.

Any one have any suggestions or can point me to a better (than what has been provided) tutorial on how to add a wireless camera to the NV4108E it would be very much appreciated.

stumped :(

No, the 4108E should not have an antenna. There is no wireless capability built into the 4108E. You must connect the 4108E to your existing network via an Ethernet cable. You then connect your wireless camera to your existing wireless router. The 4108E sees the camera through your existing wireless network.

So I just have to ask.....

Why do they advertise the 4108-HS as (no built-in-WIFI)? Which led me to believe the 4108E-HS HAS built-in-WIFI.

My router does not see the wireless device like it does every other wireless device in the house. The camera just has a slow blinking green LED. I even took the dome off and did a hard reset. Still stumped.

First, be aware that I'm no expert, just another user. I have the NV4116-HS and was confused much of the time I was shopping. Their sales material and documentation is much like their software - a little lacking. They seem to even have two different units that carry the NV4116-HS model name - maybe one's a newer incarnation.

In any event, mine does not have Wifi built in. The only difference I noted between the E-HS and -HS versions is that the E version has Ethernet ports for the cameras, whereas the non-E version does not (I use external POE switches for my cameras). And, as a side note, I ended up not using any of my cameras on Wifi. They were too slow, so I connected Ethernet to all of them (two of mine are 3MP, the other 7 are 4MP).

As for the connection, I had better luck plugging the cameras into the router with an Ethernet cable to set them up. Plugging in gave me a solid connection and allowed me to set up static IP addresses for each camera. You should be able to go to the NVR setup page under Image, Remote Device and do a Device Search. It "should" find your camera. Note that you can also use the IP Config software, downloadable from the Amcrest website.

Once you get the device IP address, type that IP address into your browser to get to the camera set up page. On the camera Setup page, click Network, then TCP/IP and look at the Ethernet Card setting. Use the pull down menu to choose Wired or Wireless, and set the appropriate IP address (Static or DHCP, whichever you prefer). Note that there are separate IP addresses for wired and wireless connectivity.

I hope this helps,

Finally success!!!

Thanks Mike for leading me in the right direction. The trick was after connecting the camera with cable and getting it to come online, unplug cable and then follow procedures to set it up on mobile app. Once I scanned the bar code and added the camera to the mobile app, all was good. I did have to turn on my WIFI on my phone and connect my phone to my router WIFI. And since my router is dual band, had to make sure to connect at 2.4GHZ.

Well, I had a power outage and I lost my connection to the wireless camera because it changed IP address.
I have gone into the camera setup and changed the IP address to static. So tell me there is some other way to reconnect to the camera short of unmounting the camera from underneath the eve and rescanning the QR label.
I really don't want to have to do that every time I have an issue with this wireless camera.

Has anyone ever taken a picture of the QR label and used that to scan?
They really should have a duplicate QR label on the box or on a card in the box.
Or is there not somewhere in the camera setup that shows the SN so I can type it in manually?

It's been a little while since I set mine up, but I think you should be able to get in with the IP address. If you don't know the current IP address, go to the browser setup page for the NVR and select Image, then Remote Device. Towards the top of the page, select Device Search. It should find your camera.
