AD110 with Hampton Bay HB-7612-02 keeps ringing

Post by Darkadam »

Hi all,

First of all, I'm sorry for my English. I'm not a native speaker nor a native writer.

I bought the AD110 and installed it with a mechanical chime, but it kept ringing so I checked the compatibility list and bought a Hampton Bay HB 7612. This is the same one which is being used in the youtube video. After installing this one it keeps ringing too. What am I doing wrong. This is my setup:

doorbell: Amcrest AD110 - works with 16 to 24v Transformer
Chime: Hamption Bay HB 7612 works with 16v AC, 10 or 15 watt transformer. Guide says: The voltage should read between 18-22 volt on the low voltage side of the transformer when the doorbell is not playing.
24v transformer: Transformer: https://media.elektrobode.nl/images/pro ... pg?v=59246

could it be that the chime kit isn't working? Or do I need a transformer with 18v? When I measure the voltage on the chimeside there is 25v on the line. Could it be too much?

I had the same issue with a mechanical chime. I did change the settings for the chime in the app.

@Darkadam, the first thing i would check is wiring perhaps there is a short somewhere or you have connected the wires wrong. your transformer does not appear to be the issue because 1v more is not going to cause the chime kit to malfunction unless the chime kit is truly faulty.

i suggest remove both the camera and the chime kit and start all over. wire the hampton bay mechanical chime with a regular push button doorbell to validate your wiring is right. then connect the chime kit on the hampton bay mechanical chime. test the doorbell to validate everything is still working properly. replace the push button doorbell with the camera. it would help to if you can post a picture of the hampton mechanical chime after the install to show the connection. worst case scenario is you may be right the amcrest chime kit is faulty and i hope you're able to get it replaced under warranty in netherlands.

Hold the Phone.... Wait... So your HB says it works with 16vac why are you trying to work with a 24vac transformer?

Listen so people understand better... When you plug in something that says it is 24vac and gives more that is because it knows that there is going to be Voltage drop there is no protection on these there is no Voltage Regulator there is nothing to make this constant so it gives over to hope when used it will provide just enough...

Please if your Transformer is as it looks a 24vac and might even be DC as I can't tell because there is nothing on mains side or low voltage side to say if it was DC or AC...

BUY A 16vac 30va Transformer and wire your doorbell... Because looking at the picture of the unit you have it will not work your Doorbell camera anyway... 0.6a isn't enough to power the doorbell camera....

Again 16vac 30VA Transformer is needed for your setup.... Lets just hope you didn't fry the poor HB doorbell that wants a 16vac transformer not a 24vac...

edit: hm.. my reply seems to be vanished or something..

I had a longer reply but in short this was it: there was a short in the circuit. The electrician who I hired the first time wired everything together to test it, but forgot about it. I made a circuit and it all works now.

Thank you @amcrest168 for your help! and thanks for the reply Revo2Maxx, but this wasn't really the problem. It asked for a minimum of 16v. My bad.

Yeah you might want to look at the Manual Again I own that Doorbell and it in BOLD letters says It Requires a 16vac 10va or 15va Transformer that is on the Second Page right under the Table of Contents...

So if you have a 24vac transformer powering this doorbell over time your going to cook it

However you have it working I am glad it is working for you now Just keep in mind if you keep the 24vac transformer on the doorbell it will fail much sooner then it would with the Right one installed... Good luck...

Edit: Also looking at my Manual in the Trouble shooting area it says that the Transformer should read between 18-22vac that is because even though it is a 16vac Transformer most of them are higher in Voltage to cover any Voltage Drop over distance the Higher to start with if you were to do a test from the Transformer at the time a normal button is pushed you will see that the Voltage will drop and if button is pushed longer it will find a Current Constant area and maintain that voltage until the Transformer dies or someone lets go of the button...

While I was going to make a Video I just did a Search on youtube lol While this guy has some good hardware the info he says is almost good to point but will show you and others just how much Volts and AMPS things happen on a normal press of a door bell Now just so others know the Ring That he will use in the end of the video take less power then the Amcrest Doorbell so keep that in mind on his numbers that he gets off that doorbell power test... However I only seen a .55 amp he said it went to .79 so I am not sure but the Amcrest would be higher.. Also remember that is for a very short Press if that was to do a constant press that would pull the voltage down even more and would fail to do much but with short press voltage drop to 16.5 is within specs...

edit: I did watch it again and after it was at a Constant .55amp it did junp to .79amp he was right lol.. Just thought I would mention I did see the jump..
