Now that this is solved I can say for 100% sure I will be buying a second one this month. I use this for license plate reading and many people illegally don't have front license plates so I need to capture both directions. I found if I can get the camera with in 40ish feet of the vehicle and use large 12 led IR flood light, and set the exposure to manual at night time with 1/1000th shutter I can capture plates pretty clearly at night.
Also now that the camera is at 4k@30fps I can say Amcrest made a huge mistake with 100mbps connection, with h264 my switch was reporting 96mbps basically nearly 100% utilization of the link, I had to use h265 to drop that down. It is 2022 and I can only imagine that poe gbe is not that much of a cost bump, but to be fair its not just them all my smart tv's have 100mb ethernet as well.

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
I mean I know the camera is AI but is it a ANPR as well? If it is that just makes it all that much more a want for me seeing my LPR no longer works.. Got a good amount of years out of the use.
Personally the cost is less then what my older LPR was however that was what mine was designed to do, It only takes plate pictures and my older DVR stores them and I can white list or black list them and well you get the point..
Is the 2896 have capture setup where you can choose the size of the plate in min and max and the camera or an NVR like maybe my 4216E-AI can store them? Maybe not and has to be the 52xx seeing I seen the menu on there where it states ANPR is a feature and mine don't have that however might be something that only enabled with a camera with feature..
Nice to hear you have it working for your needs.

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
Question, Looking at the first 3 pictures below and knowing that I use this area Color 24/7 do you think it would be good improvement to buy the 2896 to replace this camera? This is the camera I am looking to change out. It is from 2017 and is TVI even though I use it on my 4216E-AI NVR That is why was thinking of the update to the 2896. From what you see in the pictures here if you were replacing this camera would you use the 2896? I mean I know it is only a 5x and this one is 10x however that one is 8mp and this one is only 2mp also TVI that I am using though my 7108-AI DVR that my NVR sees as a IP camera connection and use 4 channels from that DVR.. Anyway there is 4 pictures first 3 are in picture 1 the way it is zoomed for every day use in Color only day and night, Pic2 is at 5mm and Pic3 is at 50mm and the last picture is the Lens data from the Cameras OSD.. Also pictures were reduced in size because they where over 2megs each and needed to reduce size for forum use..

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
I think that depends alot on what you want out of the camera? if its general surveillance then optical zoom always beat megapixels imho, maybe if we where talking sub mega pixel it would be different but to give up 5x optical zoom not sure its worth it for general usage. sure 4k is a bit more clear than 1080 but zooming in optically is much clearer than trying to digitally zoom using the pixel density form higher mp. Your 3rd image is 100% clearer than what I get out of my other 4k camera digitally zooming in. I have no problem making out clear details on faces and cars on any of my 8 other camera's that are 8mp but streaming in 1080p(2mp), so that tells me personally that optical zoom would work out better than higher resolution as I am not trying to count the number of threads on their cloths only trying to provide police clear images.
This is 4k 2.8mm @30 fps no zoom IP8M-2597E Here is that same camera digitally zoomed in on an object that 15 to 20 feet away from the lens I am using software for ALPR not the camera itself the camera is just what I needed to feed high resolution video to feed my software. Because I am using this for plates I have to have color turned of 100% wont capture any plates at night in color, even in black and white it wont capture plates, this is because the shutter speed is way to low so the plates reflect the light and blind the camera. So at night I have to have the shutter set to manual and 1/1000th this capture the plates perfect but the car is invisible, see below. Note I have this camera maybe 35-45 feet from that car with fully zoomed in and a 12 led 850nm flood light mounted above the camera.

Awww ok. So that I understand being done with Software. Thought maybe it was a hidden Feature within the camera was why I asked.
Most of my Cameras Old to New are zoom of some fasion. I mean most of my older non PTZ cameras were VF that is set and forget and or Zoom box cameras controlled by 3axis controller. Wasn't until my TVI cameras that I could use PTZ without RS-485 wires however is slower then using a controller. Most times 2.8, 3.6 or 4.0mm lens cameras don't suit my needs.
I also agree zoom cameras in most cases can be better then higher mp cameras.
Not sure how I feel about using software of a company that stores the image on their servers. I like to have control who has access to my CCTV camera footage.
Thank you for taking the time to post some images about your cameras and helping me under stand better how your using the Amcrest AI camera for plates.

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
The software runs on my system, I am the most anal person about network security. I have 10 vlans in my home network, an ha pair of edge firewalls and an ha pair of inter vlan firewalls. I don't trust amcrest in the smallest amount their camera's are always trying to use the internet even when p2p is disabled. I block their access to the internet.
There are several what seem to be good open sources ALPR that work off rstp, but honestly I am lazy and didn't want to mess with making it work. I use https://platerecognizer.com/ the stream version that runs locally. I was able to talk them into a pretty steep discount for personal use. I have only used it for a week but its been pretty accurate, for plates. The MMC "Make Model Color" feature is decent but not as refined as the plate. I also notice that for temp tags it decides the expiration date is the plate number.
I saw there are even a few open source nvr projects that do the ALPR that would not need much setup work. However I have already invested in Synology as both home storage and NVR, I run a HA pair of Synology and hoping for my birthday this month to buy a third to hook up across an IPsec tunnel at my moms house. So I can shift my video recordings there and have it fall back to my house if needed; this way if I am robbed they can't take the video.
