Web GUI SD card video playback workaround

Post by bmoss706 »

This post concerns the Amcrest IP camera IP8M-2496E and Firefox v80 running on Linux Mint 20 and Windows 10.
  • The video files downloaded from the SD card are type mp4.
  • In the Web GUI Playback window, double clicking on a video's “Start Time” typically only plays a few seconds of the video, then fails with a message that says use Surveillance Pro.
  • The HTML5 browser Firefox has a default video player which supports mp4.
  • Launch Firefox and login to the Web GUI.
  • Click Playback, select a date, click File List, click the download button (down arrow). If this is the first download of a session, a popup will ask you to login again. Next a popup will ask “What should Firefox do with this file?” Select "Open with" and use the dropdown menu to select Firefox. This choice will stick.
  • When you click OK, Firefox will begin the download which you can track by clicking the download arrow at the upper right.
  • When the download is finished, the file will play in a new tab with controls at the bottom: play/pause on the left and elapsed time/duration on the right.
  • If the file is not worth saving, close the tab; otherwise, right click the video and select "Save Video As." Close the tab.
Web Gui modifications
  • The downloaded filenames are corrupted, for example 01.38.15-01.39.00[M][0@0][0].mp4. The date is missing.
  • Playback by double clicking on a video's “Start Time” should be removed.
  • The popup to download the Simple Player should be removed.

You can Edit a Post for only 10 minutes.. After that the system removes the ability to edit your post.. This was put in place because there was a lot of spammers that would come online and make a post that looked Legit and then after the Mods had already seen the post and didn't feel it needed to be Removed the Spammer would return and make changes to the post that would have Links and or other things that are not part of the forum and would not be known until some time later...

There was talk to Lock threads that are older as well however this wasn't done for now to try and help keep like type issues together.. However it can be a good idea to start a new thread anyway for the most part seeing some people that read a topic might not like the current content and might not get the attention that is needed for a good answer when there is a problem..
