From the User manual, it seems IP5M-T1179E does not require plugin on the web interface and works with any modern web browser. Is it true? Are there any other models that work with modern web browsers?

I use MS Edge (latest Chrome based) when I make any changes to the set-up of my cameras (see my signature for details). In my opinion it's the best way (using the webUI I mean) to change settings, I don't use Edge for anything else and I have it set-up with 3 x home pages, one for each camera so that it opens with 3 tabs.

Latest firmware versions are now javascript driven and don't require a browser plugin as they used to. I don't know whether this is true across the whole range of devices but as my camera models are several years old now, I can only guess that it does.

Thanks for your reply. It's good to hear that some old models have been updated to html5 standard. Unfortunately it is still far from inclusive inclusive that all model on sale are plugin-less. I am thinking about IP8M-T2499E at the moment.

Another thread of this forum regarding that camera model is not very encouraging though.web-user-interface-f25/chrome-and-ip8m- ... 13390.html

All their live demo cameras still asks for plugin. :|

Could you tell me since when the firmwares do not require a plugin for web UI? Were they released after January?

The latest firmware for the IP8M-T2499E is V2.622.00AC000.0.R dated 3/20/20 and I'm sure that will be a javascript version (the same applies to the old thread which you mention).

I don't know off the top of my head when the change over.

Just bye the bye, you can still use IE or any other browser for the old firmware to change those settings that don't require a view of the video stream. Just dismiss the "plugin" message and the web UI still works as long as you don't need to see the video, not that that's much use IMO.

I can confirm that this is the case.

My order of IP8M-T2499EW-28MM has arrived. I am happy to report that the WebUI works on Google Chrome running on a Mac with Amcrest Web View extension installed. While not the the best way html5 solution out there, at least it works on a web browser of 2020 albeit losing some functionalities. :)

Unfortunately, "Amcrest Surveillance Pro 2.0 Beta (Mac Only)" crashes on launch.
