High Bandwidth Usage

Post by Amcrestuser5 »

I have a single Amcrest 1080p camera in my house and in the last 84 days it has uploaded close to 5 terabytes of data and downloaded around 30gb, these numbers seem really excessive. Why? Is the camera constantly uploading the video stream? How can i prevent this?

Thanks.

Hello Amcrestuser5,

If you access your camera through the phone app or on computer using Amcrestview.com and it can consume data. It should not use much data as long as you do not watch the cameras video stream online. If you have the camera added to cloud, that can use data as well. If you watch the camera on a PC locally from the same network using its ip address, the camera is not uploading any data online as its only with in the local network.

If you have access to a website you can use methods like this to be able to throttle your FPS ("Frames Per Second") rates to control bandwidth usage:

https://amcrest.com/forum/general-discn ... t1358.html

You can even after x time create a "Resume" button. The example below uses 60 seconds. So that if you left the Interface running in the background, it would stop until you hit the "Resume" button. The Interface can be for display only or using the IP Camera controls of your choice with display as well as using a forced password of your choice. You can use HTTP and HTTPS even when the IP Camera is only using HTTP. You can display as many IP Cameras on the same page as needed using the resolution of your choice on a per IP Camera basis:

I would like to be able to either only view the camera locally (from the same network).

Or to make it so the camera doesn't constantly stream data to amcrestview.com and only does it on demand.

-Thanks.

Yes. The Interface can and does do this. Please use the links in my prior post here. They have real-time live demos using Amcrest IP Cameras.

I read those links and they didn't really answer my question.

If i simply only want to use the camera while i am on the same network as it, but still user the browser/android app to look at it. How do i make it so it does not communicate with amcrestview.com at all?

Thanks.

All you need to do is download these:

Only need to install the Apache module during install here;

https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html

Then download this and read the ReadMe and SecureImageDisplay.php using Windows notepad to read them. Then make any changes as the instructions in this download say to do. Then copy all the files from this download ("Not the first download") to where the Xampp files were placed in the Xampp/htdocs/SecureImageDisplay/ folder. Then start Xampp-control.exe from the xampp folder on your hard drive. Then start the Apache Module from within Xamp-control.exe:

Note: Please use the cameras Local IP Address and port when making these changes.

http://107.170.59.150/V50/SecureImageDisplayV50.zip

Then using any browser use this URL to view the camera from the computer you installed the files on:

Code: Select all

http://localhost/SecureImageDisplay/SecureImageDisplay.htm
You can also use the computer that has the files on Local IP Address for any devices on your local network that are browser capable via this URL:

Code: Select all

http://192.168.1.67/SecureImageDisplay/SecureImageDisplayZoom.htm

Hello Amcrestuser5,

If you want to block the camera streaming outside, you need to disable P2P under Network settings. However it only sends out video when looking through the phone app or amcrestview etc.
