IP4M-1041W Can't Change Email Password

Post by sparkgap »

I have 2 IP4M-1041W PTZ cameras inside my house and 6 Amcrest POE bullet cameras outside.
I need to change the email password on all the cameras so they will send me emails after motion detect.
The outside POE cameras work fine but I can't change the email password on the PTZ cameras.

When I try to change the password using Amcrest View Pro it says "cannot connect" and it won't save the password.
I know the app is connecting to cameras because I can see the live view on both cameras.

Anyone know what's going on? These cameras pretty have no use to me if I can't get them to send emails.

Thanks

My guess is that the older or other cameras have different password type ability where the 1041 might not like the password type.. You can figure this out by either setting up a different email if you own the server service. Or change the password for your email if you don't.. Or if you like I would be willing to let you use my email service with a user name and password that I know would work for the v3 aka 1041 line of cameras. I would setup a outgoing email then in the box where you would want to send the email just choose your normal email. After testing this it would tell you if it was a password issue as I am guessing it is and you could correct your password and send from your service. Or it would confirm that there is an issue with the camera.. Either way let me know. Won't take long to setup an account on my email server..

I don't think it's an issue with the mail client. When I try to change the password it says "Unable to Connect". I'm not even trying to send a test email. But I know the app is communicating with the camera because I can open the live view and see everything fine.
I have had these cameras for a little over a year and it seems that it used to send emails but the other day I got an email from my service provider (Comcast) telling me I needed to change my email password because it hadn't been changed in a long time. After I changed it I started noticing the problem with these 2 cameras.

I also tried using the IP Config Tool to see if I could change the password there. That's the tool I originally used to set up email passwords on all the cameras, including the outdoor POE cameras. I verified that I could open any of the outdoor POE cameras and modify the password if necessary. However, when I tried the IP4M PTZ cameras it didn't work: I logged in to the camera then selected Setup and chose the "E" icon (Internet Explorer). Then on the left side I selected Network and SMTP but instead of showing me the window to modify the email settings it showed me a GREEN screen where the window should be so I could not modify anything.

This all seems to be pointing to a software problem. Maybe the firmware needs to be upgraded?

My computer is a Mac Mini running OS 10.12. I think when I first bought these cameras I was running OS 10.10.5. I also noticed that after installing 10.12, I can no longer see a live view when using the IP Config Tool. Instead I get a message telling me I needed to install a plug in.

One last thing: When using the Amcrest View Pro app, when I open the window to modify the email password, it shows the password as 6 asterisks, even if I select the "show password" icon. The strange thing is I have never had an email password that was 6 characters long. My old password was 10 characters long. It can't even be the default password, which was 5 characters long (admin). So something very strange is going on !

Also, I should mention that when I first got these IP4M cameras a year ago, they would not connect to Wi-fi when scanning the QR code. You were able to provide a fix which involved holding the phone camera lens in front of the PTZ camera lens about 6" away and then it would connect. I'm wondering if this might be related to the problem I'm having with the camera not connecting when trying to modify the email address?

In some of the cameras software that is how it was setup.. Meaning on older cameras it would display the password.. This is a Risk to the end user and so yeah even if you have 12 digits when you log in with App and look it just defaults to the 6* isn't in relation to the password offered... No longer have that business but name is still linked to my address so this is from my V3 device that I have not setup my new email server on. But showing that even on my device and it did work. Only shows 6 * in password.. This is a 841V3 so it is in same type software platform as your 1041 that replaced the 1051 device.. I have my NVR setup to send emails if needed so I have not changed that camera. Now I know it needs to be changed I will lol..

However I have found now that in fact my V3 camera won't connect to my current email server either.. Now I am not sure what the issue is. It has been a year since I did any emails from that camera because it is setting behind a NVR on a VLAN so I don't have direct access to the camera normally so I have moved it back to local lan with internet access and it fails on my revo2maxx.info server and my revo2maxx.com server has crazy long email server address that only using that right now for receiving emails.. Most of my devices won't work with the SMTP server for that one.. will do some more testing if nothing works before end of day I will put camera back on the VLAN it was setup on..

So I don't know what is going on. I just double checked and updated my newest Amcrest camera that also acts like the v3 cameras you are dealing with and only shows 6 * for the password. Even in the WebUI after you setup and leave the page, When you come back to the email page it will only show 6 * but in the list here, I did a test with SSL enabled. I then changed to TLS and port 587 did another test and that is from my crazy strange SMTP server even.. The 3 test if from one of my NVRs that as you can see the sender is revo2maxx and not revo as the 2 top ones are.. I will try a to add in my crazy server and see if the v3 camera will take that one.. Right click and view in new tab to see clearer picture..

Well having my crazy email server in the v3 works my semi normal email server don't. I don't know if it don't like that it is a .info and it is looking for normal type like .com, .net, .org kind of thing and thinks the .info is bad format? However it does use the extra long email server that some of my other devices won't work with..

Holy shit I got it to connect !! I didn't use your server info but looking at your DM showed me what I needed. It seems that for these PTZ cameras the username must be entered as the full email address, not just the first part before the @ symbol. So when I changed the username to my full email address and used the rest of the SSL, port #, and my password, it connected ! However, the email test still failed, grrrrr. This could be just some flakiness with the app. Will have to test it again later. I wish I could get this damn IP Config Tool to work properly
