Synology Surveillance Station and IP2M-858W

Post by loumarjr »

I sent the following message to Synology Support. I upgraded the firmware on a camera and now I cant access it in synology SS. Is their any way to revert back to my old firmware. When I tried using the web interface the downgrade failed. Any help appreciated.

SENT TO SYNOLOGY:
Before an Amcrest IP2M-858W firmware upgrade, all cameras were working without issue.

I have three Amcrest IP2M-858W cameras on my Surveillance Station that were working properly. I upgraded one of the Amcrest IP2M-858W cameras to the latest Amcrest firmware and I lost the ability to pan and tilt on that camera from Surveillance Station. (The Amcrest IP2M-858W works without issue in the Amcrest utilities, even after the firmware upgrade.) I then removed the Amcrest IP2M-858W from the Surveillance Station and tried to re-add the camera and I get the "surveillance device test failed." message. The Surveillance Station will not let me re-add the camera. Also, the Amcrest IP2M-858W will not let me downgrade the camera firmware. Please help in getting the camera connected. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum

Sadly I can't say I know anything about your NAS to get things rolling.. I wonder 1 thing.. After you did the FW update did you ask the Instructions say to Reset the Camera back to Factory? This would be by going to the Camera and Pressing the Reset button that is in side your camera. This could be in a Panel or some cameras you have to take them apart to access the Reset button.. Most times it is next to where you would put in the MSD...

Beyond that I am not sure why it would work before and not after... Also sadly from what I have heard all FW updates after 2019 are Java Script FW and can't be downgraded to FW prior So old 2018 FW would no be allowed to go back to it.. But with some other FW say that was released in 9-2019 and a new in 1-2020 most times going back to the 2019 FW could happen.. Sadly older then 2019 is different coding and going back could damage the camera...
Be Safe.

Hope a factory reset solves your problem.
I have an 858 which has worked great for two years. When I saw that new upgrade, I said no way based on the firmware problems I've seen in this forum during the last year. The 858 currently is a $359 camera!
Here's Stratrider's thread who has a camera with the same firmware you have except with Blue Iris.

Here's Statrider's solution.

Maybe there's something there that can help you with Synology.

Be Advised loumarjr , the firmware update automatically switches ON the HTTPS feature in the camera's firmware. There is a glitch in the ROOTCERT for https mode. If you look at the block that shows the ROOTCERT coding, you will notice that the word, Texas, is spelled TAXAS. The ROOTCERT is invalid. I had the same issue with the loss of PTZ controls in Blue Iris 5 after doing a firmware update for my second newest IP2M-858W. Turning OFF the HTTPS setting in the camera's firmware solves that issue in Blue Iris. My first IP2M-858W that I purchased in February came from Amcrest with HTTPS switched OFF, as did the newer one UNITL I updated the firmware.

Thank you for this information. That was my issue. I deleted the HTTP and my PTZ in Blue Iris started working again.
