If camera drops, motion detect zone settings are lost

Post by RickciR »

I have 16 cameras setup, all but 4 are Amcrest. If a camera loses connection for any reason, all the motion detection zone info I have setup is lost. On some cameras it defaults to 100% of the area (all red), 80% sensitivity and 0% threshold. On others the detection zone gets inverted, but still sets to 80% sensitivity and 0% threshold. This is a real problem. I record only on motion detect. When this reset occurs, video gets recorded for those cameras 24/7 until I catch it and redo everything. Again.

The WiFi cameras occasionally drop for a few seconds. I'm moving some network cables (hiding them, etc.) so have to unplug stuff occasionally. But a simple signal drop for a few seconds (or even an hour!) should not scramble my motion detect zones! Any suggestions?

Well sounds strange for sure.. I am not sure what type of cameras your using or that are loosing Motion info.. Is this data being lost from the NVR or from the camera it self?

Sadly I don't know all types of Cameras.. Most are 1 type or another and have kind of same type of info for setting up.. I mean I have some cameras that are A PITA to setup to anything outside the Manufactures NVR..

Now I can't speak on your system. I can only go by things that I know of mine.. One there are options in some of my cameras to Restore on Reboot or Start at PTZ Preset xyz on reboot and they even don't know why have Reset on power up and might be an option that is set on your cameras.. I think in my case the option is to help move one camera from 1 dome to another and keep the options. Also has ability to move settings that was saved into the dome into the camera being installed rather the other way..

Another issue that it could be is that the camera has a Bad Memory Battery.. However most times this is only going to mess up time or something that isn't stored in ROM..

Like tonight I removed a camera from my shed that is about 200 feet from my Office in my home. After pulling it out of the Housing it was in, Removed all the alarm in and outs and the Audio in and out. I might have had it without power for an hour and when I connected it back up in my Office just to my POE switch and logged into the camera the date went from 2020 back to 01-01-2000.. Sadly this camera is from 2014 and I have not replaced the battery since it has been in service.. Sadly I didn't have it setup for Motion where it was installed. I just had it recording full time.. Password was still intact so Not sure maybe the camera your using has less ROM and RAM so it has to Store info in a way that requires Battery power to keep it in memory..
Be Safe.
