I wasn't getting the message for a while, but now it's popping up again.
A temporary fix would be to use Adblock to hide the element with an ID of upgradeDialog.

Here's how I solved it: Download the firmware manually . Access your camera through your web browser. When the message about the mandatory firmware update pops up, DO NOT click the OK (or whatever it is) button. Just leave that message window up. Go to System, then Upgrade.
