Update: Got in the new transformer (16v 30va) and installed it. AD110 works fine now!

In my case, I think I just found the issue: An ancient doorbell transformer which may be in spec voltage-wise, but has seen better days.

I'm ordering a new one and will post back whether that's the fix.

Exact same problem here with my new AM110. After measuring 16.4v at original doorbell using multimeter, turned doorbell off at breaker, installed chime kit and AM110, and turned breaker back on.
