I am going to throw something out that may sound crazy... Are you trying to log in with the default "admin" account? I cannot log into my camera with any account other than "admin" even though I created another administrative account that has the same privileges. I have the 721S.

You should not have any signal loss patching things in properly and using the right cable (cat 5 or cat 6). Honestly it is the best way to do it. The length of run is nothing either. You won't have any issues.
