I can't see anything I am overlooking in the documentation, but there must be a secret to getting it recognized. Are external NAS devices not supported?
In case you haven't got this figured out yet, I will tell you how I did it. If you are in Windows:
1. Go to Disk Management
2. Format the external drive to exFAT
3. Delete the Disk Volume & Exit Disk Management - Do NOT do anything else to the disk
4. Reboot PC
5. Go to Orion Client and Initialize the newly recognized disk

FYI - The disk will be recognized after step 2, but to get the Orion Client to initialize it without errors, you must complete through step 5.
Closing/reopening the client did not work for me.
I used this method to set up multiple external USB SSDs that were not being recognized by the Orion Client.

Have you successfully deployed 4K cameras at full resolution and frame rates without isssue?

I've been unsuccessful so far only acheiving the VLC-type 'green screen' effect after what is probably the first I-frame in the clear. Then garbage.

Anyone on the 4K performance issue with the Orion client?

My test setup is on a modest iCore 9th Gen Win10 box with 8GB RAM with QuickSync hardware acceleration. One camera.

4K falls on its ass without fail. Same camera works fine through a Dahua NVR4108 or VLC. Blue Iris will at least pull a stream albeit a pretty choppy one.

I personally don't know why there might be an issue. I have 2 8mp cameras right now one that is 20fps and one that only supports 15fps and both are on h.265 and have them both working in Orion. Is the issue while in full screen or in Grid view? or in both? My 20fps camera don't get much traffic so I can't say that it is working perfect. My 15fps is a Dahua Zoom camera that is facing the road at 12mm lens or there about. So I guess I could zoom it out and see if the images are the same after taking it back to 2.8mm. The reason I say this, Right now I have not had any issues on Orion in the current setup and or view area. When a vehicle or person goes by the image is clear and there is no issues with choppy view.. Now this is with Orion running on a I7 10700 16gb ram and video is a Super RTX2070.. Not that the hardware matters much.

Right click and view in different tab to see full screen but here are the 2 cameras so you can see they say they are in h.265 I hover over both screens. No issues in Grid view or full screen.

My replies are again getting immediatley deleted when I hit 'Submit'. Maybe you could have a stern word with the management about this? LOL

Good to know you're getting 4K results, albeit with many more times the GPU capability as my test box. But still...

I can't even achieve grid mode this evening for some reason. Hovering over the selected device shows the thumbnail as usual, but no larger display when right clicking even with just a four panel grid.

I eveidently need to revisit the initial client configuration to investigate. Task Manager is showing zero GPU utilization but very high CPU. I'm certain I specified the GPU in the config.

Will report back after some time spent investigating further.

Thanks.

So I did have to reinstall my Orion today because I forgot the user name being used lol.. So I added in the first 2 8mp cameras.. I just added in a few others and while I will admit before adding them I was 55 to 65 % memory use. After adding still the same.. So I removed one of the channels because I don't display that one normally and forget not to add it.. But the bottom 2 pictures is with others added in and the other shows CPU data..

So, I just saw this and downloaded it.

Haven't tried it yet. If you see all my other posts I'm having fits trying to get a new complete system I bought setup.

That fact that the site admin is the op scares me.

Scares you? Why? Because I am a normal person that is here as a person that helps Amcrest keep down spammers on the forum! So I ask a question about something that was NEW to me as others normally are ahead of me.. I don't work for Amcrest.. I am just someone with little more right to the Forum to help keep things running smoothly..

Again I don't work for Amcrest. I am not Paid, I get nothing and just passionate about CCTV security.. So much that I even run my Own Forum..

What should really scare you is ever needing actual Amcrest tech support. You think their software is bad? LOL

FWIW, Orion is an enterprise level platform designed for enterprise level security administrators, not homeowners or hobbyists.

Good luck with your 4108. You'll get it figured out.
