Nv4180e-hs
Nv4180e-hs
Searched and searched and searched. Here’s the deal, I bought a returned Amazon amcrest nvr from an auction. Everything is perfect except it was set up by someone. I just want to factory reset the damn thing!! There is no reset button on the mother board btw. Any tips, tricks, anything?
Re: Nv4180e-hs
Hello and Welcome to the forum..
I don't want to say can't be done. However without there being a Factory Reset button (Be happy yours don't have one) Mine does and don't work.
So what can be done. If you have a HDD installed, Unplug the HDD, hope it was set to the max tries and not setup by me where I change the tries to 5 or 3 depending on the model, Then if it was setup with a patern you can try to Brute Force the NVR's pattern. Then that will give you another set of tries on the Brute Force of the Password.
In theory it would be best to try and contact the seller and let them know it is locked (If you bought it locked and knew it) then brute force is only bet.
So before you do that one last thing to look on the MB for a set of holes that could have JP1 next to it. This should be next to a Capacitor and resistor however the resistor might be on the bottom. If you find the area called JP1 you could try and short that between the 2 pins. Remove the power count to 10 restore power and after about 10 more seconds it should beep 3 times then you can remove the short. (Normally this is done with smd tweezers)
I have a 4116E-HS that has a reset button and everything was tried and it didn't work. I did find that it was trying to reset Via Data Dumps so the button was working however the part on the microchip that it should have reloaded from was no present so it just re ran what was already loaded. Save your self the headache and don't try removing the battery. One it has to be un soldered and only thing that will do is return the clock back to 1-1-2000 and even trying old method won't work because it was found as a loop hole and with new upgrade from old 4108 to the new hs different chip that don't offer the clock reset method.
Hope you didn't pay much for it. Or that it at least came with a HDD that made it worth what you paid.
Also there are places that say software can reset it and that isn't true. It is to new of system so the date method for a God Password won't work either so don't go down that rabbit hole either..
Out side of all that is the device able to be added to a Internet connection Via P2P as that might give you a little more trying power via Amcrest Surveillance Pro.. Just keep in mind why I said to remove HDD connection is that once your system locks Pull the plug and wait 10 seconds and plug back in once it does the 1 time beep you can try over ASP or the NVR's GUI to do pattern or password again until it locks again. Then repeat. If it was done by a Hard password it could take a long time to figure out the password.
You might want to find a Common list of Passwords that might be the first area to try. Most people still don't listen and do easy passwords so Admin12345 or admin12345 or admin1234 and so on qwerty and things like that people are hard to break bad habits.

Re: Nv4180e-hs
Also I guess I should have asked. Does the NVR have a password reset email setup? I ask because what you could do is contact the web host and see if they would be willing to give you the password or if it is able to be connected to Internet via ASP they could change the password and even over Amcrest View Pro they could change the password.
This is one reason why I tell people not to use personal Web Email for reset because 1 someone could try to find the info from the website, So I also say use msn, or yahoo, gmail and things like that. People can't figure out the owner of that device from x****@gmail dot com because there is just to many people. Where x****@yourdomain dot com while it could be good for you at this time it isn't good on the stand point of a secure email as people could try to exploit your web server to find the answers...

Re: Nv4180e-hs
So are you sure that your NVR don't have a Reset switch? I ask because while I do have a 4116E-HS that is on my desk, I also have a 4108E-HS as well. So I sent my son to the house to Open it and see if that one has a Switch and sure enough it has the same switch at the same spot as my 4116E-HS. Taking the 2 screws out of the back and 2 out of the sides, Then looking from back to front the POE ports are on the left next to the power connector. If you are looking at the Power connector on the left back side the fan connector is at the front of the MB on the left side right next to that is where both of my machines have the Reset switches. That switch is marked K1 on the MB.
Also what is the first 5 numbers after the AMR of your SN mine is AMR01334 so it is an older 4108E-HS seeing it is still in numbers and no letters yet. I didn't ask my son to look at the date on the box it is in a locked room that no one would have access to. However I am going to guess it was from 2018ish might have been 2017.. If it wasn't 2500 miles away I would go look.
Are you able to take a picture of the MB and post it. My guess is if it is a newer model and they omitted the switch on yours then there most likely wouldn't be any jumpers either that you could short for resetting that was some things that was done in older units and even some of Amcrest cameras that the MB is to close to other parts like IR or lens they left out the switch and if they need to reset have to short the pins.
Again looking at the power side of the MB next to the Fan Header is where my switches are on my 4108E-HS and 4116E-HS

@Revo2Maxx
You discussed trying to guess the NVR password. Couldn't the following method be used?
https://support.amcrest.com/hc/en-us/ar ... quest-NVR-
And here is the factory reset procedure for the A2(?) model.

Re: Nv4180e-hs
Doubt it is an A2 model.
About the email, that was why I asked about the Email server if it was one that is PVT they might be able to contact the web master and see if they know what the password was. If it was setup with msn, hotmail, gmail or yahoo then there is not much that one could do..
But yes if the Device has a pattern and they figure out the pattern, Then they can remove and make q&a and or change the email address and do a reset that way. They still need to brute force the pattern as stated above. Once they get into the device that is good. Issue is Pattern isn't something always easy. It would take someone that knows me well to figure out what my pattern is. I will say I don't hardly use dot to dot I like to skip. But when I made a video about some flaws that was just for the video I don't normally do easy patterns. Then the next issue is knowing where someone starts their pattern.. It could take a long time to figure them out..
