No network connectivity

Post by pilant »

I have a AMDV10808 that I'm just really starting to configure and use. It has the latest (and only available) firmware (3.200.AC04.5) installed.

I've connected it to my network, and while the (static) IP address is visible on the network, I am unable to connect to the DVR. I have tried using the IP address directly, Amcrest IP Config, and Amcrest View Pro on my iPhone. None are able to see the DVR.

The Network -> Info -> LOAD windows does seem to indicate network connectivity succeeded.

However, doing the Network -> Info -> TEST results in a time out of the network connection.

Attempting to use various network tools on the assigned IP address (ping, port sniffer, etc.) all fail.

I'm wondering what I have missed or am doing incorrectly. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Forgive what might seem a silly question but are your router and rest of your network devices also using the 10.5.9.x range?

p.s. I don't know much about IP addressing but the gateway of 10.5.7.254 looks odd to me given that you have a static IP of 10.5.9.5 set.

I have other devices in the 10.5.9.x range working properly. With the subnet mask of 255.255.0.0, any address from 10.5.0.1 through 10.5.254.254 will be valid.

I actually tested connectivity with a Raspberry Pi on the LAN with an IP address of 10.5.9.2. It worked fine.

I don't think I can be of any use then - 192.168.1.x and subnet 255.255.255.0 is about my limit :)

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

So here is what I would do to start off... I can't see your router so I think it is best to try this....

One Start by changing your system back to DHCP... Then restart your DVR... Once the DVR is back online look at the network info again. Then Test with that info over any of the above methods that you have tired without being able to connect. See of you can connect now.... If you can go back in the DVR and set to Static and change only the last number to what ever you want that isn't already taken on your network.... like for all my CCTV related things I have reserved everything above 100 to only CCTV....

Started off with DHCP, then changed to static when DHCP didn't work. (I rebooted the DVR after any network change, just to make sure the changes were picked up; or should have been.) Router is a Netgear EX7000 (AC1900).

I have also added a network sniffer into the mix, and I get no traffic from the DVR's MAC address. So it would seem while the IP address is "there", there isn't any connectivity. (Lots of traffic to the router using the browser based management interface.)

Very strange. I guess the best thing to do would be reach out to Amcrest Support team either by email or phone and see if they can help you get your system on network..

August 28, 2019 update: After spending the past two weeks trying to resolve this problem with Amcrest suppport (email & phone) I am giving up. I purchased a replacement DVR from a competitor and I was able to access the DVR over the network (using the same information as I supplied to the Amcrest DVR) without any problems.

Will be offering the Amcrest DVR for sale to someone else to experiment with.

As far as I am concerned, this issue is now closed (with no Amcrest resolution).
