ok, right after i posted this i got an nvr alert. the strange thing is that the person opening the gate had to walk across other intrusion lines to get to the gate. why did it take so long to trigger the alert and not trigger when crossing the first line?

I don't want to tell you how to setup your Rules however I thought I would mention that it would work better if you had it moved away from the edge of the screen.

Also where the Porta Potty is I am going to guess is about 80 to 100 feet from the camera. I can't tell really I am guessing. Taking your Truck and setting it in place 3 long is 60 feet, Then the height to the camera is where I got my numbers.

So this an be an issue with how it detects things. So if you look at 2 pictures I will make now. I will show you what I am talking about. First Picture is the real setting of the camera. the second picture is the camera at full zoomed out mode. While it does work in my setup if I had it with my rules in the grid there is some times it don't work. So with my Camera it is a 5mm x 50mm and running at about 12 sto 16mm at normal view. I don't know it just a guess as 50mm I can see the asphalt close..

So this is from my 4216E-AI NVR, This is setup however with the rules from my 7108AI DVR on a Analog TVI 10x camera. Before having this camera installed here I had a 2.7mm x 12mm and my guess is from the look of your camera it is running a 2.8mm camera in that view area. It is trying to do to much in such a large area.

Please don't be confused by the 3 rules. My intrusion is setup for Human and Vehicle and the 2 Tripwires Vehicle only are to tell my PTZ to go to a Preset. This camera isn't a PTZ it is only a Zoom Bullet camera.

So I thought I would touch more on the rules and what you could try. I can't say that it will help much with how your camera is setup. My guess is that it is a 2.8mm or 3.6mm lens static camera. I turned on by device rule for an Intrusion so I could show you something that you could mess with a little but again just think it is out of the ROI of the true DORI of the camera.. In the second picture you can see it is setup for out of the box settings just trying to show what i am talking about. Max, and Min things can be adjusted for what size something in it detects. However again I think it is just to much for the camera

So I made this picture a JPG so the file isn't go large. However this shows a 2.8mm 4mp camera that I have in use. It is a 1046EW-AI camera and that is the rules on the camera. Again this is setup with 2 tripwires that is telling 2 PTZ cameras to go to a Preset and the first rule is a Loitering rule not setup to record just to send me an email and push.

Reason I am showing you this camera is because even at this height the camera is out of DORI for Face ID unless it is almost closest point of the View area. Detection will trigger but ID isn't what I had expected..

In truth if I move the VIEW down some it would be perfect for ID and Detection even adding a ROI box of where I want to have it give that data it isn't perfect but works. I have a older camera from 2014 that has Face Detection that works well. But the cost of the camera is about 6x what I paid for my Amcrest AI camera. Please note that I don't have my Box up to the edge of the scene. It works better to have some open area for detection to pass over the line. If it don't really know it passed the line it might fail to detect it unless you turn on appear then that can lead to other kinds of issues..

thanks for the awesome detailed response. really appreciate it a lot.

another question: what is the recommended resolution to set the camera to optimize for detection & storage? i have some non-ai cameras on my house that are all configured to 1080p and nvr detection seems to work fine. the camera above is set to 4k resolution. seems that for storage the lower resolution is better as you can store more days of video. not sure if the lower resolution helps or hurts the detection algorithms?

Well it's not really resolution that gets you. I do have 8mp cameras as well however I normally right now keep it 5mp or lower on ivs from recorder. I will try to move my 2496v2 close to where my 5x50 camera is. While I try to help as much as I can I have a bird nesting behind camera and they have few days or week before they Fledge so might be week or 2 before I can. Mainly issue is lens and camera placement. The area the camera is at is really out of scope of most cameras with fixed lenes. I mean I do have 5mm 6mm 12mm 16mm fixed lens cameras but finding one today isn't easy. Your area would be best with 6 to 12mm lens either VF lens or Morotized VF however in truth using with ivs without ivs presets your best off with just set and forget VF lens. Depending on other camera factors your area could even use 22mm lens for best gate watching normally could be 9 to 22 VF and tune to your needs.

So something to think about, if your looking to record full time on your 8mp I would turn off schedule for that channel and click on sub manual in the record and that will auto record full time in sub channel resolution on my phone right now but logged in to show what I mean. On ch 3 I have it recording full time for audio reasons. Plus IVS only so keeps record times low. Also have 2 Hdd for 10tb of space as well a 4tb and a 6tb.
