Issue with IP8M-2493EW-V2 connected to NV4108E-HS

Post by spleen911 »

My current (built 2019) Amcrest infrastructure consists of four NV4108E-HS each running 6 cameras (IP4M-1028, IP4M-1051, and a sole IP3M-HX2). All NVRs are running latest v4 firmware.

I'm hoping to replace all (14) of my IP4M-1028E (discontinued) with IP8M-2493E-V2, but running into a showstopper.

First, I started by connecting a new IP8M-2493E-V2 to local LAN so I could do base configuration and validate operations. With camera connected to LAN, using camera URL, live view will only load mainstream as H264. Setting mainstream to H265 forces live view to change to substream "for performance reasons" in the browser. I added the camera IP as a device in Surveillance Pro and I was able to live view mainstream in H265 and H264. I set to H265 as that is my preference.

Next, I connected the camera to one of my NV4108E-HS and mainstream failed to load. Changing to H264 allows mainstream to load, but the bit rate is very wrong: it shows 50000-90000kbps. The video lag is approximately 7 seconds. I tried dropping to 10fps and 4196 bitrate but it didn't change anything.

At this point I did a factory reset, logged into camera (LAN connected) to setup password and verify mainstream = SUCCESS. Connected camera to same NVR and stream lagged showing 48000kbps. Moved camera to another NVR4108E-HS and same stream lag showing 55000kbps. Unplugged the camera and posted this to see what folks think.

I'm not new to Amcrest and a a loss. The NVR4108E-HS is rated for 4K, but I know it chokes to death at 80Mbps combined streams. Hopefully someone will have an idea that makes it work because while I'm willing to replace 14 cameras, I'm not willing to also replace 4 NVRs. If I cannot get it working, I'll leave my Amcrest infrastructure as-is (at 4MP) and continue building out my Unifi system with 4K instead.

Note: the V2 camera is not listed on Amcrest firmware page, but the firmware per the camera is 2.800 with a 3/20 date code verses 2.622 (10/20) listed on firmware page for the original IP8M-2493E.

I set SmartCodec=ON (reboot) and now it is behaving on the NV4108E-HS: H265, 15fps, 4096 bitrate. :? :D
