IP camera vs NVR motion detect messages

Post by jakthree »

Hi,
I am confused about how to setup motion detect (MD) messages. I have an older NV4104 with a single ethernet port plugged into a PoE switch. I have a new IP5M-T1277EW-AI camera, with vehicle detection capability, which is plugged into the same PoE switch. I can get to the NVR and IP5M individual GUIs.
In the NVR, I have added the IP5M to channel-1, setup SMTP to send channel-1 MD email. P2P is enabled.
In the IP5M, I have not setup SMTP, or MD. P2P is disabled. The IP5M does not have a SDcard installed.

In the NVR, there are no settings for vehicle MD. The NVR will send MD messages but the snapshot is captured to late and the vehicle is mostly out of frame. I want use the NVR for continuous recording of channel-1 IP5M. Also, I want to setup the IP5M to do vehicle MD and send snapshots.

Is it possible to setup the NVR for continuous recording, record the MD event but not send email and setup the IP5M to send MD snapshots?
If I make a change to a camera setting such as MD zone in the NVR, will saving that change break the vehicle MD setting in the IP5M?
Do I have to install a SDcard in the Ip5M?

Thank you,

OK so there is a lot there.. In the 4104 are you saying that by OLD is it the 4104H or is it the 4104-HS?

Next when you connect a AI camera to a non Ai NVR the only option is MD. Same would be said for the normal 41xx-HS models that has new Firmware on it while the NVR will show the AI rules there is no function in the NVR to record AI features.

So does your NVR look like Picture 1 or Picture 2? when using the NVR WebUI? If you have AI options enabled does it show like pic 2

Anyway there is feature under your storage for setting schedules in there you setup the NVR to record full time. Motion events should record motion if you have it setup and enabled..

To expand on my post, If you want to use AI feature of the Camera and be able to record footage of said Ai events then yes you will want to install a MicroSD card in the camera. If you happen to live in an area like mine with loads of Humid days and or loads of rain and snow days along with Bugs. You will want to update your NVR at some point to using a Ai type NVR for your Ai cameras.. Best part of owning a Ai camera is to cut down on false alerts.. Most days if I only had MD recording I would have full HDD in very short time..

In the WebUI here is what full time Recording with MD also setup in your NVR would look like, Please note that it is best to change your recording for snapshots to be setup for MD only if you don't it will also fill up full time snapshots that will record every second of every day. Unless you changed to a different value for full time snapshot setup..

Revo2Maxx,
First post.
Yes there is a lot.
First I will start with, I gave you the wrong NVR model. I have a NV2104. I cannot access the NVR's webGUI. My PC is windows 10, browser is Chrome. I can get to the NVR login screen but I keep getting message 'Please install plugins first!' I download/install the plugin but when I attempt to login to the NVR, I get the same message over and over again. I can access the NVR by the Amcrest Surveillance Pro windows app.

Second post, I will install a SDcard in the IP5M camera. Using Chrome, I can access the IP5M's webGUI. I have setup Network - SMTP, Event - Video Detection and enabled Smart Motion Detection - Motor Vehicle.

Third post, I have setup the schedule in the IP5M same as how the NVR is set, except I turned off save snapshot in the NVR. Both the IP5M and the NVR are setup to send MD emails. I expect I will get an email from the IP5M and the NVR. I am hoping that the IP5M will have less false alarms. If the IP5M works the way I hope it will, then I will turn off send email in the NVR.

I will let you know how it works out.
Thank you,

Don't know the camera you are working with, However if you are going to use SMD you will be asking for more problems then you are looking for..

1 SMD don't have any thing outside of the ability to search motion detection for a type of event, Human or Vehicle. Problem is all MD will be sent over the email or push..

If you are looking to keep the events down you will want to setup IVS if the camera offers it. You will want to setup a Tripwire or Intrusion and use the Filter to choose what one you want. In the picture of the IVS I have 2 lines going from right to left that is because I only want emails or alarms if there is a human but want the info recorded.. You see if you setup 1 tripwire in an area and filter both vehicle and person, then your notices would be sent in push or email for both..

Win10 has Edge, as you seen what I used for my pictures use Edge and setup to use in IE mode for your older NVR..

Revo2Maxx,
My camera it a Amcrest IP5M-T1277EW-AI. Your street view screenshots are almost exactly like my camera view. I used IVS and created a vertical tripwire exactly where your vertical blue line is at. I also have a second vertical tripwire to the right side of the driveway. I don't have horizontal wires.
I have Event - Smart Plan enable.
I have Event - Video Detection enabled with Detection Area Region in the same areas as the IVS tripwires.
I disabled Event - SMD.

I am confused, should I have Video Detection, Smart Plan and IVS all enabled at the same time?
How do you get both of the tripwires to show up in live view?

Thank you,

OK to keep the issues of False alarms down, I would turn off the MD, Make sure that in your Cameras setup for Smart Plan it is setup for IVS.. Then in your Plan I would make sure that you have your type you want set for the right line. Then in the Rules area of the camera make sure that all the Rules you want are turned on.., On my setup I have Motion off, I have IVS only method of alarms or events if you will and I have them setup to send Emails in the EVENT that I want. Maybe one day I don't want events of Humans because I will have lots of Vehicles that day and want to keep track in Email or Push alerts the ones that come in.. Also have the Vehicle as the first list and humans as the second to make sure that some one walking the Dog past that might go into the first line don't trip the Alarm I want to know that the Human that trips the Line is active in my Property area..

Revo2Maxx,
The screen shots helped alot. I was able to get tripwires working and I am receiving emails so I can move on to the next problem which is playback. I need to allow the camera to store some video and snapshots so that I have something to play back.
Thank you for your expert help once again,

Glad to hear, I would put in a Micro SD card and seeing they are not to spendy I would get a WD Purple to be safe. I mean there are others that will work and I do have some others myself. Yet on all the cameras that are of great importance, I have setup with the WD Purple so I know the footage will be there when I need it. Other cameras have at times had some issues with other Micro SD brands and even though they are all going Push, Email, Micro SD and DVR/NVR for storage. I have a few that use the FTP option rather then the Micro SD.. Just different ways to store and backup..
