FTP DAV files!! How can I stop these??

Post by J4S0N »

I have two Amcrest NVRs. They are set to save snapshots to an FTP. I've followed all the topics on this forum about making sure Snapshot is only set to MD on the schedule, My video detect settings are ONLY snapshot (not record channel) on every channel. it mostly works, but randomly a DAV files show up. they will be from different channels with dates in the past.... Both NVR's do this.

It seems very random.. If I delete the files right away they come right back, but if I wait a few days then delete them, they don't...

How do I turn these off?!?! I had a 100GB's of junk DAV files from the last few months running up my hosting bill! Please make them stop!!!

Well the DAV file is you Recorded data for your Recorder if you want them to stop don't record..

Hosting BIll? Not sure how your Recorder is making your BILL larger unless your sending your Events to a NAS or FTP or have it setup to backup to a Off site server? However it looks like your Motion is going crazy. Maybe a Snow rain or some other thing going on but yeah Ch6_main is your Recorders, Channel 6 Recording the Main and not the sub. So then you have your settings for your Recordings setup where they are going off and off most likely caused by same event just not setting up the Recorder to record the even and only doing short clips at a time rather then setting the delay and Anti Ailis to work for your current needs..

So want them to stop fasted way without changing things is going to your Event and changing all motion to off, Or you could just go to HDD, Record, and turn off all Recording for main, sub and snapshots and that will make all your recordings stop and your BILL won't be in Question.

Turn off Email if you have email setup, turn off FTP or NAS if that is setup those are the options to turn off the files your showing in your Post.. I Personally wouldn't turn off my Recorder from being recorded. No since in having one if I did...

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure I completely follow your suggestions... what's point of having cameras if the footage isn't recorded?

Here is what I want to happen:

- All channels records 24/7 to local drive on each NVR (this is working today).
- When motion is triggered, upload snapshots to off site FTP (this is working today; I'm paying for hosting for this)

Here is what I don't want to happen:

Currently my FTP is littered with DAV files. It appears to be randomly.. The screen shot in the first post shows Channel 6 writing files recorded January 12, but saving them on the 18th. Some of these files are very large (hundreds of MBs). I also see some from Channel 3 saved on the 18th.

I'm going to keep an eye out since now I don't see any new ones (and I haven't touched any settings). But maybe more will show up in a few days? It would be great is someone could tell me why these are showing up and how to turn them off without making my NVRs useless.

Sadly there is a lot that goes into sending files.. IF you have large files there are either large Events, Large Camera with high FPS and Bit Rate settings.

It would be hard to know what is going on without knowing what Ch3 is compared to ch6 and why one looks like normal Event but just maybe setup is off some because to be honest in Ch3 2 files at 48, 49 and 50 could have been setup for only 1 file if settings were right, sure file would be larger packages but that looks like a 10 second delay on a Bug event or a camera that is pointing at a street that cars go by at 45+ so the event is Short.

Ch6 looks like camera that has Long Events and or is setup to record and upload Full time Recording and not event or it is on a Camera that has Many Many FPS and Bit rate is high with large Event can be rain or snow with IR on or bugs in front of camera the one at 614 was almost 760mb file.. If your not trying to ID something and have a Large camera I would maybe for just back up save in Substream and not main stream to save on size of files..

Again it is hard to say without knowing what the camera Encoding is, what the FTP setup is, what your Storage recording times are what is what for your system..

Turning them off as you put to Make them stop would be to not have your system Recording and that was why I asked what is the point if you want them to Stop.. I have my System FTP to a Server in my home, I then backup only what I want to a Offsite FTP server as backup if and only if there is something that needs to be saved longer then I have setup my on site server to keep them for...

If you have large and many files flowing and it is not caused by Rain or snow or even Humid events like I have here then you will want to look at your Schedule because that sounds like there some Schedule issues along with Motion event issues..

Sorry I couldn't give you a Solution to your issue there is way to many combos of things that make some files larger then others...

" what's point of having cameras if the footage isn't recorded? "

Are you kidding me? Some applications only need snaphots, say every 15 seconds. When you need time lapse of say a construction site, or weather, etc.

I had the same problem, never solved it with Amcrest. The replacement Reolink RL-511 worked wonderfully, and it FTP'ed snapshots into a nice flat directory, did not bury them deep into many levels like Amcrest does, and it certainly did not upload unneeded .dav files, like Amcrest does.

Thank you for the replies. Revo, I'm happy to upload screen shots of any settings you want to see on the NVRs. As far as I know, I have all the same settings for all cameras, but 3 and 6 seem to write random DAV files. the large files are DAV files (not snap shots). Here are some screen shots, let me what else to share

Well here is a couple of things that I would try looking on your Pictures.. One in the FIrst picture I would try to setup CH6 to Record from what I see right now it isn't checked and don't see a Channel there.. Second thing what I would do also on that Picture,, I would change the Anti Dither to 0 and and change your Delay from 10 as that is only going to give you a 10 second clip after Motion. I would change to 30 if not a busy area.. I have some of mine set from 60 to 120 depending on type of camera and if it has Audio.. Some camera can pick up good audio so having it setup for 120 seconds aka 2 minutes I might get some recorded audio of an event that the person went out of View but not out of of the area and still can be heard.. Other cameras with not much Traffic I have set for 30 because most times there is some other type of camera that would have picked up the event and is recording just a different view..

Snap shots you will want to check your Schedule and make sure 2 things, 1 that your not setup still for Full time because from what I see it is going to send a Shot every second an while that is JPG folder it will fill up a HDD fast... I had mine setup for full time for about a week to find out that every 31 frames I was getting a picture.. (FPS 30 1 pic a second every 31 fames a Picture) anyway not all my cameras are set for 30 fps some are set 22 some set to 15..

Anyway.. Looking at your Picture!? PIR? I mean if your Camera has a PIR and it works as I have a few that lol don't even my AD110 I can't say I feel it works and it has 2 PIR's. However that would keep the bad Events down if your PIR works unless that option is there on accident.. To be honest it looks like your System if Recording Full time with some Motion events as well.. It is hard to say without seeing the footage... Not that I am asking to see it I am saying it is hard to know what is going on without looking at footage and settings...

After looking over your system pictures there is something that isn't right here... Sadly without seeing all your Channels there is no telling where the Camera is getting the Recording command from. Looking at my system I setup to look like yours besides I have mine setup to FTP to my Local Server. After turning off the Record for Ch6 on Ch6 I no longer got any thing on my FTP server for my NVR from Channel 6. So I then thought ok. Lets turn on Ch3 on motion to Record CH6 send to FTP and while I didn't have anything marked on CH6 of my NVR I did get CH6 data off input from a different Channel FTP command..

So that leads me to think that you might have had more then 1 channel setup to Record and send Files for Ch6, Removing them off the page there didn't stop the action because it is being instructed by a different channel?

I do this kind of thing for 3 cameras on my NVR, I have 1 that is from the left of Ch2 and ch3 is right of channel 2 so I have them Setup to Record Ch2 before Ch2 even gets motion and setup for PTZ to Preset 1 to make sure that it is in the right spot before motion gets to CH2 FOV...

Only thing I can think of. Outside of that I will say that sadly I have had to do a Factory Reset on my 7204, and my 4108h a few times because after 5 to 6 months of use it starts to think it can tell me what it wants or don't want to do and only way I could cure this is by doing a Factory Reset and then setting things back up.. While I will and have gone a month before that happens even to the point of contacting Amcrest Support for the Shrug I don't know answer because it is Random and not easy to solve doing a Reset always does.. So now I just jump to a Reset and don't even waste my Time trying to jump down all the rabbit holes to come up empty...
Trust me I don't like having to do Resets but always cures the issue without wanting to get the 50 out...

Also some testing and loads of files later after making a change to FTP info for full time or jPG needs to reboot for it to take affect
