Additional Hard Drives

Post by AngieTexas »

I have an NV5208, I have added a 4tb Seagate Skyhawk Surveillance Hard Drive ST4000VX007 and because I fear using it up faster than expected, I have ordered another one.

My question is, does size matter, lol...

It says up to 20TB, so, can I have a 10tb and a 4tb? Or a 6tb and a 4tb?

Or, do the have to match, 4+4TB or 6+6TB or 10+10TB?

It probably doesn't matter, but the situation did raise the question, so I am asking...

Thanks,

So on most systems I own that have Multi HDD option you don't have to have a like size in the unit however if you are going to use the Mirroring option then you would need to make sure the Backup drive is same or larger then the main drive.

I think for me anyway I am not 100% sure but I wouldn't go with a WD Purple at 5400 and buy a Seagate Security Drive running at 7200 I would keep them at the same speed... While it might not matter I am just guessing that the system might have issues trying to keep different speed drives on rotation different speeds 24/7 and be happy about it...

HiYa Revo2Mxx,

Thanks for reply...
Do you find one brand superior to the other such as WD Purple performs better than Seagate Skyhawk, with regards to image quality, speed and longevity?

Personally I like the WD better however I do have a few systems with Seagate..

I do find that Amcrest units like the 5400 just fine sadly I have some that Require 7200rpm drives so they get Seagate
